The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to establish a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund to support businesses owned by women if he is elected.
He also plans to introduce a “Women in Diplomacy” programme to increase the representation of Ghanaian women in leadership roles within international organizations.
Dr. Bawumia made these commitments while outlining key aspects of the NPP’s manifesto for the 2024 elections in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.
He stated that his administration would fully implement the newly passed Affirmative Action Act and ensure equal gender representation in the awarding of government scholarships.
Additionally, he emphasized plans to enhance maternal healthcare services.
To protect women’s workplace rights, Dr. Bawumia stated that his government would strictly enforce existing sexual harassment laws.
The Vice President further stated that in collaboration with the private sector, his administration would establish daycare centers near workplaces, including markets, to help mothers smoothly transition back into the workforce.
He also vowed to uphold current regulations on maternity leave.
