General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, says it is unthinkable to ever say that education is too expensive.
Speaking on Kokrokoo on Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.com, Mr Boadu said the current 2 billion dollar expenditure on education was not even enough and that government intends to pump about 4 billion dollars to properly implement such a herculean policy, the free Senior High School (SHS).
He said the NPP is in the process of constructing 800 dormitories, classrooms and lecture halls to accommodate all excesses of the new student population.
Mr Boadu’s comment was in reaction to the assertion by the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr that the Double-Tract System had made free SHS too expensive.
“When our children come home because of the Double-Track System, we cannot just watch them stay at home doing nothing.
“We ought to register them for private classes so that they can keep up in academics but the monies pumped into putting them in these classes are far more than what we would have paid as school fees for the old SHS system. It is far too expensive, taking into consideration classes fee, food etc.,” he said.
But, in his opinion, Mr Boadu thinks every policy has rough patches and people must respect that.
“There is no policy without problems and challenges, so I do not understand the finger-pointing by the National Democratic Congress, all in a bid to make our efforts seem like nothing,” he affirmed.
