Don’t turn your frustrations to chiefs and clergy; they’ve not offended you – NAPO to Mahama

-

The Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO, has advised the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to refrain from criticising traditional and religious leaders, including chiefs, imams, and pastors.

NAPO’s remarks follow recent comments by Mr. Mahama, who expressed dissatisfaction with these leaders for their support of the NPP instead of holding the government accountable.

Addressing a campaign rally in the Ofoase Juaben constituency on Thursday, NAPO suggested that Mr Mahama’s critiques may stem from frustration.

He asserted that, rather than engaging in meaningful discourse, Mahama has chosen to target these leaders simply because they have expressed support for the NPP, especially about calls for prayers and blessings for the party.

NAPO emphasised that religious and traditional leaders are not political players but serve to provide prayers and guidance to all, regardless of political affiliation.

He added that Mr. Mahama’s frustration should not be misdirected at leaders fulfilling their spiritual and community roles.

NAPO further called for respectful dialogue within the political landscape and encouraged Mr. Mahama to focus on issues that resonate with Ghanaians, rather than criticizing respected societal figures.

He stressed that, the upcoming election should center on policies and the nation’s future, not personal attacks on religious and traditional leaders.

“Mr. Mahama has realized that the NDC has little chance of winning the presidential and parliamentary elections, so he’s directing his frustration and anger towards innocent people. He shouldn’t take out his frustrations on chiefs, clergy, imams, and others who have done him no wrong.

“John Mahama knows that the battle ahead for him and the NDC is tough, and that’s why he’s picking unnecessary quarrels with chiefs, imams, and pastors,” he said.
