In a bid to ensure transparency and orderliness during the upcoming general elections, the Beverage Consumers and Bar Owners Association of Ghana has issued a directive calling for all bars and taverns to remain closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day.
The Association aims to discourage alcohol consumption before voting, as it believes that drinking could impair judgment, lead to unruly behavior, and increase the likelihood of rejected ballots at polling stations.
In a statement signed by President Moses Onyah, the Association emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful and focused environment throughout the election process.
“As part of our responsibility to ensure a transparent and peaceful environment ahead of the 7th December elections, we, the beverage consumers and bar owners of Ghana, request that all bar owners and bartenders refrain from opening their establishments, including pubs, bars, and blue kiosks, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 7th December 2024,” the statement read.
The Association highlighted that this measure is necessary to prevent voters from becoming intoxicated before going to the polls, which could result in rejected ballots and disturb the election process.
The group further appealed to bar owners and consumers to support this initiative, encouraging a collaborative effort to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and orderly election.
