-

Political scientist has cautioned government not to jubilate over the survey conducted by the Political Science department of the University of Ghana indicating that 52% Ghanaians will retain NPP in government after 1-year in office.
According to him, Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah, the government must take the research findings serious by implementing the promises it gave to the electorate ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“The NPP should not to be complacence about our findings but should rather work harder since the vote they obtained in the 2016 general elections has dropped by 4%” Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah, who is a senior lecturer at the Political Science Department, was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s current Affairs programme, Burning Issues hosted by Afia Pokua.
“The biggest problem in the country now is poverty and if government creates the jobs the poverty will reduce” he stressed.
“The government should not jubilate over the survey findings and should focus on job creations agenda and fix the economy” the lecturer said.
Dr. Owusu Mensah added that per their findings cost of living among Ghanaians is still high which the government must role out policies to minimize cost of living.
His comments follow a survey conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana which said out of some 5000 respondents interviewed in 250 electoral areas across the country, a total of 52.7% of Ghanaians said they will vote for the Akufo-Addo led government.
A paltry 33.1% of Ghanaians would vote for the opposition National Democratic Congress.
The survey also showed a 62% approval rating for an administration which has been heavily criticized in its first year by the biggest opposition party.
Commenting on the performance by the Akufo-Addo’s led government within the first year in office, Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah scored the NPP government 60% for first year in office.
He said the government has done well with introduction of the Free SHS, the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey and among others.
