Don’t fail your constituents – Bagbin to new MPs

-

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize the needs of their constituents and the nation.

Addressing an orientation session for first-time MPs, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of honoring the trust and sacrifices made by the citizens who voted them into office, urging the lawmakers to remain committed to serving the public interest.

“You are a role model. The lives of many people depend on you. Don’t fail them. This is what touches my heart. As you reflect, you will remember how people supported you, not just during the elections but even today, defending you with their lives in the villages. Yet, some of you come here, taking things lightly and toying with their future,” he stated.

He further warned that neglecting such responsibilities could have consequences, both morally and spiritually.

“It is unfair, and the Almighty God will not bless you for it. Because, in truth, you don’t need such a blessing. Remember, you reap what you sow. So don’t think you’re doing good for others alone — you’re doing it for yourself,” he concluded.
