The Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has advised trainee nurses and midwives to resist being swayed by what she describes as short-term incentives from the government.
Addressing a group of trainee nurses in the Ellembele Constituency during the second phase of her tour of the Western Region, she urged them to focus on long-term aspirations that would secure a brighter future, rather than falling for promises aimed at winning votes.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the NDC’s previous dedication to healthcare development and criticized the current government’s handling of the sector, claiming it has let down the Ghanaian people.
“We won’t stand here and make empty promises. We all see the challenges in our economy. For the first time, Ghana has defaulted on debt payments, yet we are still unable to meet basic domestic needs.
“We are in a difficult situation, and it will take collective effort to restore the standards we are accustomed to and make improvements.
“Meanwhile, people are offering money, ignoring the fact that the male hostel remains unfinished. Why isn’t that money being used to complete it? Have they forgotten that lecturers lack accommodation and that a skills lab is needed?
“As healthcare providers aspiring for progress, you must know where to cast your vote. Don’t be misled by these temporary incentives,” she cautioned.
