Paul Dogboe, father and trainer of undefeated bantamweight pugilist, Isaac Dogboe, has disclosed that his Rising Star Promotions spent over $170,000 for the WBO International Super Bantamweight Championship between his son and Argentine Javier Chacon at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Saturday.
He lamented that it took his outfit a lot of money to organise the bout which gave his son a world title shot, having defeated Chacon by a technical knockout in round six following a hand injury sustained by the Argentine.
Giving the Graphic Sports a breakdown of the expenditure, he noted that Chacon took a purse of $26,000, a WBO sanctioning fee cost them $3,000, while $19,700 was spent on flight tickets for 10 people, including the Argentine boxer and his two trainers, judges, supervisor, referee Tony Weeks and WBO officials, among others. The figure includes payment for accommodation and other fees.
In addition, each of the three judges took $400, while the referee and supervisor received $500 each for their services.
Paul further revealed that his promotions still owed some money for the organisation of the bout as they had to do everything possible to ensure the fight took place.
“We spent over $170,000 for this bout to take place and it really cost a lot to bring all these people down here for the fight.
“This is what we had to go through to bring this fight so we can give Dogboe a chance at a world title which paid off finally,” Paul said.
“At times Dogboe has to ignore training so we can go out there to seek sponsorship to make this promotion successful, which isn’t good for him,” he noted.
