Confusion erupted on the side of the Minority when, for the fourth time, the bauxite and lithium agreements came before the house.
The Minority had stood firm against the laying of the same insisting that, it would not allow the House to lay the documents because consultations and community engagements had not been carried out.
The leader of the government side, led by Frank Annoh Dompreh, drew the attention of the Speaker to allow the side to lay the agreements.
The Speaker in-chair, Andrews Asiamah, allowed the laying of the agreements.
The Minority Whip, Kwame Agbodza, rose to his feet and assured that the Minority will keep an eagle eye, though his side will allow for the laying of the papers.
He also indicated that, they will not allow two Committees (Mines and Energy / Lands, Natural Resources and Forestry) to do its work.
But that did not sit well with the Minority’s ranking members, John Jinapor and Alhassan Suhuyini, who stood and argued against the position taken by the Minority leadership.
While some from the Minority were showing gestural disagreement, others were urging the leader to carry on. The house subsequently laid the agreements.
The mining lease agreement is between the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and Barabu DV Ghana Limited for the exploitation of lithium at Ewoyaa in the Central Region.
According to the papers laid, another agreement between the government of Ghana and Ashanti Bauxite Limited will also seek to mine bauxite in the Nyinahini Block 2 Area in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
