The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has rejected the Minority’s call for Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to participate in Parliament’s debate on the 2025 budget statement.
While the Minority insists that the Vice President’s presence and contributions are essential to the discussions, Mr. Adongo has questioned their reasoning, highlighting what he perceives as inconsistencies in their argument.
“A few days ago, you were on this side of the House, organizing this committee meeting. Did you ever schedule for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to appear before the House? Or do you believe that just showing up and nodding his head constituted participation?” he asked.
He further explained that the Vice President has significant responsibilities and cannot be expected to attend simply as a passive observer.
“Unfortunately, the Vice President has important duties to fulfill and does not have time to just sit and nod,” Mr. Adongo stated.
Addressing claims of the Vice President’s silence, he countered, “If you claim she has been quiet, we cannot force you to listen to her. However, I listened to her yesterday, and so did many Ghanaians.”
Mr. Adongo reaffirmed that the Vice President would speak when necessary, adding, “You may not hear her in the chamber now, but when the time is right, she will be here.”
