Dialogue key to resolving Nkwanta conflict – Oti Regional Minister-designate

-

The Oti Regional Minister-Designate, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has committed to prioritizing dialogue and collaboration with key stakeholders to address the ongoing conflict in Nkwanta.

The recent clashes, which began on January 16, have claimed three lives and left several others injured.

The violence has created widespread fear among residents, with sporadic gunfire reported and approximately 200 people displaced to nearby towns.

Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee, Mr. Gyapong outlined a comprehensive plan to foster peace in the troubled area.

“When I am given the nod, I will consult my regional coordinating council, the security coordinating council, and chiefs and stakeholders in Nkwanta. Together, we will strategize on how to resolve this issue,” he stated.

He stressed the need for a gradual and consistent approach to conflict resolution, emphasizing that lasting peace cannot be achieved overnight.

“Conflict is not an event, and a solution to the conflict is also not an event. We will dialogue with stakeholders and all relevant parties. A conflict resolution committee will be established to bring together all the players involved in the conflict,” Mr. Gyapong added.
