Deputy Health Minister cuts sod for new health center in Akyem Essam

-

The Deputy Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has officially cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern health center in Akyem Essam in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The health center is part of a national strategy designed to provide essential community-based health services, focusing on accessibility in deprived districts and sub-districts.

Currently, residents of Akyem Essam face significant challenges, often traveling long distances to access quality healthcare in nearby towns such as Akwatia, Akyem Wenchi, and Oda due to the lack of a proper facility in their area.

Local residents have expressed concerns about the difficulties they face, particularly pregnant women who must rely on motorbikes and tricycles to reach the nearest health centers, which are approximately seven kilometers away.

During the sod-cutting ceremony, which also included the commissioning of a five-seater WC toilet, Mr. Acquah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

He said the construction of the health center is part of his campaign promise to enhance healthcare delivery in Akyem Essam, underlining the importance of accessible health services for community development.
