The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed that the search at the home of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, was sanctioned by his office as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged misappropriation of state assets.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday dawn, was carried out by National Security operatives and has been widely condemned.

Reports indicate that about 15 soldiers, arriving in three separate vehicles and wielding rifles, forcefully entered the premises.

The operation was allegedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations, who reportedly disabled the CCTV system before demanding Dr. Addison’s assistance in locating supposed “vaults” within the house, which they then ransacked.

In an interview with JoyNews, Dr. Srem-Sai stated that the search was carried out legally with a valid warrant, confirming that his office takes full responsibility for the action.

“We take full responsibility for these searches, and I can confirm they were conducted in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.

Dr. Srem-Sai emphasized that the investigations are being conducted carefully to avoid wrongful prosecutions, asserting that his office will only proceed with prosecutions once sufficient evidence is gathered.

“We will not take anyone to court and then ask for time to gather evidence. We will only prosecute when we have sufficient evidence,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who visited Dr. Addison following the incident, has accused the team of stealing items, including jewelry and GH₵10,000.
