A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku, has described the Democracy Hub protestors as hooligans.
According to her, these protestors from their actions clearly stepped out to cause trouble and disrupt public order.
Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, programme Thursday, she acknowledged every citizen has the right to demonstration, however, they must be guided by law.
She said that although people have raised concerns with the arrest and detention of the protestors, she sees nothing wrong with it.
Ama Daaku stated that, the protestors got exactly what they deserved, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) ‘Enough is Enough’ demo which was held nationwide did not record such chaos.
She asserted that, the Police were doing their work and were even lenient, giving events recorded at past events.
“In my view, these people are a bunch of hooligans and before their demonstration, the NDC had done theirs and we did not hear that they blocked roads, attempted to fight the police, picked the keys to a police vehicle. So what is different about theirs?
“They left people stranded and frustrated on Saturday. So given their actions, if the Police has reacted, would they have survived?” she said.
Citing the ‘Let my vote count’ protest in September 2015, she said people were beaten to the extent of one losing his eye, although they did not create such chaos.
To her, the response of the Police clearly shows they improved with regards to their handling of protestors.
Ama Daaku further commended the NPP Youth Wing on their call for the arrested protestors to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, over 40 protestors have so far been remanded two weeks into police and prison custody respectively with the case adjourned to October.
