The Association of Vice Chancellors Ghana has expressed concerns over the delayed release of the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Association has said the delay could significantly disrupt the academic calendar of universities.
The Executive Secretary, Dr. Sena Kpeglo-Freiku expressed the worry in an interview on Joy FM amidst the growing uncertainty over the government’s debt owed to the West Africa Examination Council(WAEC).
“Most universities had planned to welcome first-year students by the second or third week of January. The admission process itself is a time-intensive exercise that involves analysing results, assigning students to programmes, and finalising placements.
“With the delays, even if the results are released soon, the process will be pushed into February or later. This creates a domino effect, disrupting academic calendars and reducing the effective time for teaching and learning,” she bemoaned.
So far, WAEC has received about GH₵85 million from the government to offset part of the GH¢118 million owed.
It is therefore the expectation of the Ministry of Education that WAEC releases the results by December 29, 2024.
