The Chairman of the Nkwanta South Presbytery and head pastor of the Global Evangelical Church, Rev. Prince William Ahelegbe, has called on the government, the Electoral Commission (EC), and journalists to prioritize peace in the upcoming elections.
Rev. Ahelegbe emphasized the importance of a peaceful electoral environment, stating that it is essential for the democratic process and the overall stability of the nation.
According to him, a peaceful election is the foundation of a thriving democracy, highlighting the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
Rev. Ahelegbe urged the government to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to maintain law and order during the elections.
The Presbytery Chairman made the call during the induction rites for Rev. Rebecca Abla Ankrah-Etsey at Global Evangelical Church in Nkwanta South.
The EC was also urged to uphold its mandate with integrity, ensuring that the elections are conducted in a manner that reflects the will of the people.
Rev. Ahelegbe expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to manage the electoral process effectively but stressed that vigilance is necessary to prevent any potential disruptions.
The head pastor also called on journalists to exercise caution and responsibility in their reporting, as they play a crucial role in shaping public perception.
He advised them to be circumspect in their coverage and avoid sensationalism that could incite unrest.
Also, Rev. Rebecca Abla Ankrah-Etsey urged political parties to be tolerant before, during, and after the December elections.
Highlighting the importance of respectful dialogue, she emphasized that differing opinions should not lead to division but rather foster constructive conversations.
Rev. Ankrah-Etsey called on leaders to prioritize unity over partisanship, advocating for policies that reflect compassion and inclusivity.
She believes that by promoting tolerance, political parties can work together to address pressing societal issues.
