Some former Members of Parliament (MPs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have formed a caucus to support the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the December general elections.
The former MP for Upper Denkyira West and Chairman of the caucus, Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, announced this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.
He explained that, their main goal is to ensure the NPP breaks the eight and secure a third consecutive term in office.
“We are coming together out of our own volition. We’ve spoken with the campaign team about our intentions, and they welcomed our support. We want to use our expertise to campaign in our former constituencies and help our flagbearer secure victory” he said.
Mr. Ayeh said the former MPs’ efforts are not driven by personal interest but a commitment to the party’s success.
“We don’t want the party to go into opposition, which is why we are uniting to support Dr. Bawumia. It’s about the future of our country and the progress we can make together,” he added.
Mr. Ayeh also encouraged current MPs to accept the support of the former MPs without fear.
“This is about the party’s success, and if we all play our part well, we can break the eight and continue the progress we’ve made” he noted.
The caucus hopes other former party officials will follow their example.
