Debate Bawumia instead of reciting hymns – Oppong Nkrumah to Mahama

-

The Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Manifesto Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, of capitalizing on citizens’ economic worries without offering concrete solutions.

This accusation follows Mahama’s recent challenge to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, asking him to address five key economic questions instead of sidestepping with counter-questions and a debate proposal.

In an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, October 30, Oppong Nkrumah criticized Mahama for not providing actionable plans to tackle the pressing economic issues facing Ghanaians. He argued that rather than merely highlighting the country’s challenges, Mahama should step forward with realistic solutions to demonstrate his capability as a leader.

Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the importance of a debate between the candidates, asserting that it would give Ghanaians the opportunity to assess which candidate has viable strategies for addressing the nation’s economic concerns. He contended that such a debate would allow voters to discern the substantive differences in their approaches to governance.

“Mahama is going around the country shouting that the cost of living is high and inflation has gone to 54%, and we all know the global cost of living is high. Any Class 4 student who picks up a phone and googles the global cost-of-living crisis will find answers to why the cost of living has gone up all over the world, including Ghana,” he stated.

“But if you look into our manifesto, and if you listen to Dr. Bawumia, he has proposed solutions to the cost of living, transport fares, energy prices, and fuel prices. Mahama is capitalizing on people’s genuine concerns about these issues without offering a single solution.”

“Dr. Bawumia wants to sit down with him, debate, and tell him face-to-face, ‘These are the causes of the high cost of living, and here are my solutions. Where are your solutions beyond going around and reciting rhymes on the campaign trail?’
