Damango named the capital for Savannah Region

President Nana Akufo-Addo has named Damango as the capital town for the newly-created Savannah Region.

 “The hardworking minister for the Northern Region, Salifu Saheed will be a caretaker until a substantive minister is appointed for the Savannah Region,” the president said.

The President announced this when he addressed a delegation from the newly-created Savannah Region at the Jubilee House Tuesday afternoon at a ceremony to issue the Constitution Instrument (CI) to give effect to the new region.

President Akufo-Addo urged the people of the Savannah Region to work hard towards the development of the new region.

I want to assure you that government’s projects and structure will be equally and equitably distributed across the region. The future of this new region is bright and I am confident that with dedication and hard work, every life in the region will be touched and the desire for growth and development which was the underlying factor for the creation of this new region will be met,” the president said.

Damongo is the capital of West Gonja District, a district in the Savannah Region of northern Ghana.

Damongo hosts the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom; the Yagbonwura and is also the biggest town in the Damongo Constituency whose current MP is Hon. Adam Mutawakilu.

Damongo boasts of key tourist attractions like the Mole National Park where visitors are assured of seeing a myriad of animals, chief among which are elephants, the Larabanga Mosque and Mystic Stone in Larabanga with all the ancient stories surrounding their onset.
