Covid-19: People are cutting their own hair during lockdown – and it’s not going well

-

In the UK, restaurants, pubs, gyms and any other shops that do not provide an essential service have been forced to close following the increasing spread of coronavirus.

Boris Johnson has implemented a nationwide lockdown and stringent measures requiring people to remain indoors as much as possible, with a few exceptions to the rule.

The lockdown was put in place on Monday evening, which means we’re currently only on day four of the initial three week stretch.

But it seems the boredom is already taking its toll on Brits.

Hairdressers and barbers do not count as key workers, and with their businesses shut for the duration of the lockdown, Brits are taking things into their own hands.

And since there’s no chance of seeing friends or family for the next few weeks, there’s time for it to grow back – or so we hope.

Despite a number of tips and tutorials online, it doesn’t make using clippers or scissors for the first time much easier.

Student website The Tab put together a collection of disastrous haircuts in the hope of putting people off the crazy idea.

It seems 22-year-old Lara (pictured above) was trying to trim her fringe – but has been left with a gaping triangle-shaped gap in the middle.

Although it looks as if she had wet the hair to make it more manageable when cutting, it hasn’t helped the final result look any better.

Matt, 20, tried to give himself a skin fade and clearly realised it was much harder to do than he had first anticipated, so stopped half way.

Josh, 20, also tried to give the skin fade a go but was left with more of a bowl-cut vibe – not ideal.

Harry, 23, said: “I did myself a bowl cut back when I had bleach blonde hair and, as shabby as it looked, I kind of styled it out.

“This time, however, things are different, and it looks like I have a literal lid.”

We’re not really too sure what 22-year-old Tommy was aiming toward, as he’s now missing half of his hair from the front of his head… if that’s what he was going for he’s done an amazing job.

Ollie, 22, managed to give himself a mullet even though he has reasonably short hair – not sure how he’s managed to do that.

But it’s not just this group of amateur hairstylists who are trying their luck.

One person tweeted: “I just know I’m gonna end up coming out of lockdown with a new hair colour”.

And another said: “What impulsive and reckless decisions have you guys made during this lockdown? On day 2 I had a breakdown and tried to cut my own hair (it went poorly) and painted my nails. What have you done?”
