The Ada East District Hospital is worried that its efforts towards a national fight against COVID-19 pandemic could be derailed as it lacks adequate Personal Protect Equipment (PPE).
The hospital now faces shortage in coveralls, gloves and facemask among others in the wake of coronavirus.
Like many other facilities, it receives supplies from the District Health Directorate but they are woefully inadequate to meet laid down protocols in attending to all cases.
The facility now resorts to buying some of the PPEs which is already weakening its shaky financial standings.
Medical Superintendent of Ada East District Hospital, Dr Philip Narh, in an interview with Adom News’ Kwame Yankah said the facility needs logistics to manage the situation.
“Basically, the challenge we have is inadequate resources such as coveralls, gloves, facemask and other necessary logistics to manage patients,” he said.
The very first case in the district died at the hospital in April, whereas 34 health personnel, who are believed to have come in contact with the case, were screened but later tested negative.
Consequently, the District Health Directorate, through enhanced surveillance, has confirmed seven cases who are asymptomatic and are being monitored in their homes and other places.
In an event of a suspected case, the hospital uses about six coveralls.
“ Having used all these, if results turn out to be negative, you cannot ask the patient to pay for it,” he said.

According to him, though the hospital is a government facility, the government cannot bear it all.
“ I want to use your medium to appeal to corporate bodies, individuals and other organisations to come to our aid. We are ready to receive anything that a facility will need in this COVID-19 era,” Dr Narh appealed.
He said because they are in a deprived community, almost all the donations are going to the Korle-Bu Teaching, Tema General and 37 Military Hospitals.
