The Enchi District Magistrate Court is expected to deliver its verdict on April 23, 2025, in the case of a woman accused of destroying and setting fire to her ex-lover’s property at Amonie in the Aowin Municipality.
The accused, Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina, a 36-year-old trader, earlier pleaded guilty with explanation to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing.
The court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, granted her bail in the sum of GH₵30,000 with two sureties.
Presenting the facts, General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante told the court that the complainant, David Anni, also known as Nana Atopah, is an Okada rider residing in Amonie, the same community as the accused.
According to the prosecutor, the two were in a relationship for two years. However, after the death of their two-month-old child, Ruth’s family objected to the relationship, leading to a separation.
On March 3, 2025, around 7:10 a.m., while the complainant was attending his brother’s wedding at Nyameah, he received a call from his friend, Akwasi, informing him that Ruth, who had moved out, had broken into his room and tampered with his belongings.
The complainant quickly returned home, only to find that Ruth had forcibly gained entry into his room.
Upon entering, he discovered that an amount of GH₵22,000 he had kept was missing. Additionally, several household items had been destroyed, including a 32-inch Hisense flat-screen television, a Binatone standing fan, Sony speakers, a master decoder, and a double-bed mattress.
Ruth is also alleged to have damaged items in the kitchen, including a container drum and other valuables, estimated at a cost of GH₵27,019.
Police investigations at the crime scene revealed that a double-bed mattress and some personal belongings of the complainant had been partially burnt.
The prosecutor added that during interrogation, the accused admitted the offence in her caution statement and was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court.
