The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has arrested a couple for allegedly chaining their 9-year-old son in a bush for two days at Gomoa Nkwantanan in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Bismarck Odoi and 33-year-old Saviour Arthur, reportedly admitted to the act, claiming the boy was stubborn and needed to be disciplined.
The child was rescued by a woman who had gone into the bush to gather firewood.
James Mensah, who took the boy to the police station, told Adom News that the woman brought him to the chief’s palace with chains and padlocks still fastened to both legs.
Narrating his ordeal, the boy revealed that his father had threatened to punish him and his younger brother for being late to school.
Upon their return home, he was taken into the bush, chained, and abandoned.
Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing, and the couple is expected to face legal action.
