Asante Kotoko Management member, Edmund Ackah has refuted claims by Cameroonian side, Coton Sport de Garoua over unqualified jersey number of Kwame Bonsu after their two-legged encounter in the playoff phase of the Confederation Cup.
Reports in Cameroon are that, the Cameroonian Football Federation together with the leadership of the club have petitioned CAF to sanction the Porcupine warriors; indicating that, Kwame Bonsu who is a number 3 shirted player rather was in Kwame Boahene’s number 8 jersey.
In a 7-page document signed by the president of Coton Sport Garoua and the Secretary General of the Cameroon Football Federation, Benjamin Didier Banlock, the club explains purported irregularities about Kwame Bonsu based on article 6.5 of the competition rules on players jersey number.
But according to Ackah, Kotoko will never make such a mistake and that, the Cameroonians are minors when it comes to the application competitions’ regulations.
“Kwame Bonsu is the number 3 shirted player of Kotoko and also the number 3 shirted player on CAF’s list”
“Jersey number 8 on CAF’s list is Kwame Boahene; he is also the number 8 shirted player of Asante Kotoko. Even Kwame Boahene wasn’t part of the squad that went to Cameroon.” He explained
The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 5-3 aggregate win over the Cameroonian side to secure qualification to the group stage of the competition.
