Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has attributed the failure of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign to widespread corruption within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, Mrs Mogtari emphasized that corruption significantly undermined Bawumia’s efforts.
She noted that, President Akufo-Addo’s inability to address corruption and his lack of responsiveness to the concerns of Ghanaians had a severe impact on Bawumia’s campaign.
“Corruption is, quite literally, what destroyed Bawumia’s campaign. His boss [President Akufo-Addo] wasn’t listening, and though Bawumia had a campaign to run, every time President Akufo-Addo tried to campaign on his behalf, it backfired,” Mogtari remarked.
She further suggested that, the President’s interventions were not only ineffective but also counterproductive.
“It wasn’t just about what the president said—it was about him saying it. Perhaps, if another person had delivered the message, the outcome might have been different,” Mogtari added.
