Municipal Director of Health at the LEKMA Hospital in Teshie, Jacqueline Sfarijiani, has confirmed that a medical doctor at the facility has tested positive for the infectious coronavirus.
She gave the confirmation on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday where she added that the case was confirmed outside the LEKMA Hospital.
The Director also disclosed that apart from working for the LEKMA Hospital, the said doctor also worked for a medical facility at the Kotoka International Airport.
She said the confirmation of the doctor’s case got to LEKMA hospital authorities on the Friday of last week, adding that the doctor hasn’t visited the facility since testing positive.

Madam Sfarijiani also confirmed that before the said doctor tested positive, he was at the LEKMA facility but ceased all consultancy activities immediately authorities received the information of his case.
As per the Covid-19 response protocols, Madam Sfarijiani said all those who came into contact with the doctor have been asked to self-quarantine.
“As soon as we found that he tested positive, we informed those he came into contact with and have asked them to self-isolate from Friday,” she said.
Contact Tracing
The director said so far, about 65 people have been identified to have come into contact with the doctor from the two facilities where he worked.
She said there was an ongoing contact tracing and monitoring of those who came into contact with him for the next 14 days to see if they will show any symptoms of being infected with the virus.
Patients who consulted the doctor-turned-victim have also been tested prior to being allowed to go home, she disclosed.
She also revealed that some of the patients were pregnant women as the said doctor worked at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of the hospital.
Director Sfarijiani also said some of the patients had been discharged while those others still remain under strict monitoring in the wards.
Temporal Closure of the Obs and Gynae Department
As protocol demands, Madam Sfarijiani said the Obs and Gynae block of the hospital where the doctor operated from, will be fumigated and closed down temporarily for 36 hours.
