Head of Virology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Professor William Kwabena Ampofo, has said there are no backlog of samples to be tested at the Centre.
Briefing the press on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, Professor Ampofo announced that the backlog of 18,000 samples have all been cleared except for the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) where there are over 1,900 samples left to be cleared.
Once KCCR clears its backlog, the national backlog of samples will reach zero in the testing centres.
He disclosed that the KCCR will be done with their backlog on Thursday, May 7.

Prof. Ampofo added that clearing the backlog will give room for the two research centres to focus on whether or not there are new infections and give daily account.
On Rapid Diagnostic Tests, he said evaluation was currently underway and once those are done, a report will be sent to the FDA and the Ministry of Health who will, in turn, come out with guidelines for their use.
