Coronavirus: Calls for evacuation step in the right direction – Ablakwa

-

Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress says calls to evacuate Ghanaian students in China are in the right direction.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who doubles as the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, the time for evacuation is now when there has not been any reported case of Ghanaian students.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Ablakwa said commentaries and plans from the Ghana Health Service on the coronavirus have not been encouraging.

“Countries like Uzbekistan, Libya, Kazakhstan, and Mauritius are evacuating their people from China so why are we abandoning our people there? We cannot wait for the worst to happen,” he lamented.

Mr Ablakwa further urged the political decision that must be taken to facilitate the evacuation must be done immediately.

“I don’t want history to record that we sat quietly and were negligent while our nationals perished. Government must quickly re-strategise for the evacuation and this is not to hurt anyone or affect bilateral ties with China but to save lives,” he said.
