Coronavirus – all you need to know as breakthrough human vaccine trials to start next week

Scientists at Imperial College London will start human trials for a new coronavirus vaccine next week as a Government spokesperson described their progress as “breathtaking”.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has warned that new quarantine rules for travellers will cause “untold destruction” to the UK tourism industry.

From today, people arriving into the UK will have to self-isolate for 14 days as the controversial new measures come into force.

People who fail to comply could be fined £1,000 by authorities England, despite criticism from some experts that the scheme is unenforceable.

More than 7 million people have been infected with coronavirus globally and 403,338 have died.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China last December.

The United States remains the worst affected country with 110,320 deaths and nearly 2million infections. 

New Zealand is now totally free of the virus after its last patient recovered, with the country’s lockdown now completely lifted.
