Tensions are running high in Ablekuma North as the Electoral Commission (EC) struggles to finalize the collation of results for 20 polling stations in the constituency.
The process, which was suspended yesterday due to disputes remains unresolved, with both parties expressing concerns over the verification procedure.
The EC has summoned 12 presiding officers from the constituency and is awaiting the arrival of 20 more to assist with the authentication of the remaining results.
According to the Returning Officer for Ablekuma North, Vincent Obeng, the move is aimed at ensuring the credibility and accuracy of the final results.
However, the decision has sparked controversy, with the Elections Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ablekuma North, Daniel Tonyiga, expressing strong disagreement.
Mr Tonyiga argues that the involvement of presiding officers at this stage could undermine the integrity of the process.
“We believe the collation process should be transparent and free of undue influence. The EC’s decision to involve presiding officers in this manner raises questions about fairness,” Tonyiga stated.
The NDC party agent alleges manipulation of figures by EC officials.
The confusion has heightened tensions among party agents and supporters in the area, with many calling for swift resolution to avoid further escalation.
Observers are urging calm and transparency as the commission works to address the contentious issues.
