The Concerned Youth of Kwahu, led by their chairman, Benjamin Ayim has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the queen mother of Kwahu to address allegations made by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) against the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.
This follows the chief’s resignation as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) on October 11, 2024, amidst accusations of extortion.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II stepped down after a customer of the bank, Collins Darkwa, petitioned the Office of the President, alleging that the chief had extorted over GH₵2 million in exchange for approving a GH₵12 million loan.
The businessman claims the Kwahumanhene initially demanded GH₵50,000 and later more money for the approval.
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday, Mr. Ayim emphasized the youth’s desire for a thorough investigation.
According to him, the people of Kwahu do not want to be associated with “disgrace”.
“We have seen reports in the media and we want to ascertain the truth of the matter and what the chiefs will do about it because we don’t want to have a bad name for the people of Kwahu. We petitioned the queen mother, and we’ve given her a 7-day ultimatum to provide us with answers on the claims made by the Bank of Ghana regarding the Kwahumanhene.
“She assured us that she would speak and convey any information she gets from it. The Kwahu Adontenhene also assured us that a proper investigation will go into the matter. We don’t want to be associated with a bad name. We demand clarification on the ADB menace.”
“We do not want Kwahu to be associated with disgrace. After investigations, the traditional council will decide whether to destool him or not, but our goal is the betterment of our land,” he added.
