CLOGSAG Strike: Applicants turned away at Ashanti region Births and Deaths Registry

-

Applicants seeking services from the Births and Deaths Registry in the Ashanti region were turned away as workers joined a nationwide industrial action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association – Ghana.

CLOGSAG is protesting the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths.

Offices of members of the association in the regional capital, Kumasi, remained closed as many clients were left stranded at the entrance of these offices.

When the news team checked the office of the Deaths and Births registry, a client was desperately seen knocking at the door into the reception of the Births and Deaths Registry in Kumasi.

After several attempts, workers at the office only returned to inform him about their ongoing strike.

“This is actually my first time coming here. I came to do my birth certificate, but I didn’t anyone there,” a client said.

He is not alone. Many clients who trooped to the office to seek various services were turned away.

“I need the certificate to process my travel abroad for school and work,” another client said.

Offices at the local Ministries enclave in the region including the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, although opened, refused to serve clients.

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association- Ghana (CLOGSAG) are protesting the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

Although the government has justified the appointment of Mr. Botchway, the association argues he is a politically-exposed person to occupy the position.
