The head of auction unit of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has urged importers to blame clearing agents for the delay in the clearing of their goods from the ports.
According to her, some of the clearing agents unduly cause the delay in clearing of goods at the ports and that results in the expiration of the mandatory 60 day grace period for the clearing of goods.
Vehicles importers especially Ghanaians abroad have incessantly complained about the difficulty they go through in clearing their goods from the ports.
They have therefore been asking the government to streamline the operational lapses within the cargo handling systems to ensure that goods were cleared faster through more efficient arrangements.
These complains, Nana Serwah Caiquo speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday called on them to lay the blame at the doorstep of some of the clearing agents.
Her claim, she said is based on the fact that some of the clearing agents spend monies given them by some clients on others.
“Some of the agents do not tell the truth, some take people’s money and use it to work on that of others…,” she said.
She however called on aggrieved importers to apply for extension of deadlines as her organization is ready to grant it.
“I have more than 30 applications for extension to car owners and encourage all to apply to my office for extension where necessary…,” she added.
