The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey-Jacobs has described a statement from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yunyoo that President John Mahama is ‘incompetent’ to lead the party into the 2020 elections as a ‘stupid statement’.
Joseph Naabu Bipoba told Adom News’ Parliamentary correspondent in an interview that the former President lacks “competence” to lead the NDC’s re-election bid in the 2020 general elections.
Hon. Bipoba comment comes on the back of growing debate about who is better placed to lead the opposition NDC in the 2020 elections.
He further described the former President Mahama as a bad choice for the NDC.
“He was the president and contest with Nana Akufo-Addo and lost miserably so if President Mahama comes, what is he going to do? Is he the only person?,” he quizzed.
The Yunyoo MP said former President Mahama is to blame for NDC’s shameful defeat in the 2016 general elections because he surrounded himself with political neophytes like former Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah at the presidency “who told him nothing but lies”.
Reacting to this comment on Adom TV’s Bedwam Thursday, Allotey-Jacobs said the comment was a ‘stupid’ one especially as it is coming from an MP.
“It’s an unfortunate and very stupid statement coming from a Member of Parliament…it is a very stupid statement, very stupid statement…,” he said repeatedly.
Allotey Jacobs added that he was not surprised the comment came from the MP who he said is a brother of the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu.
“And I learnt he is the brother of Bugri Naabu so I am not surprised because something is going on behind the scenes including the NPP trying to win some of our MPs to their side..,” he said.
