Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, believes that the strong public backing for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo stems from deep-rooted distrust in the judiciary and widespread perceptions of corruption.
His remarks come in response to a recent Global InfoAnalytics survey, which revealed that 52% of Ghanaians support the Chief Justice’s removal, while only 20% oppose it. An additional 18% remained neutral, and 10% expressed no opinion.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Dankwa explained that the poll results reflect a consistent trend of public dissatisfaction with the judiciary.
“I prefer to rely on data rather than personal opinions. In 2023, almost 60% of voters expressed low confidence in the Supreme Court, according to our polls. This lack of trust isn’t new—it was also evident in 2020,” he noted.
He further pointed out that the judiciary’s image has worsened over time, citing recent findings.
“Our latest survey shows that the Supreme Court is now viewed as the third most corrupt public institution in Ghana. When you connect these dots—low confidence from voters and high corruption perception—it’s easy to understand why many believe any effort to remove the Chief Justice might be justified,” Dankwa added.
