Cigarette butt sets wooden structures on fire at Winneba

-

A discarded cigarette butt ignited a bushfire at the Olympic Arena in Winneba, partially burning wooden structures in the area.

The Winneba Fire Station who were called to the scene arrived shortly to extinguish the fire.

Thanks to their swift response, the team managed to bring the fire under control within seven minutes, preventing extensive damage.

While some vegetation and one wooden structure were partially burnt, the firefighters successfully saved several other structures from being destroyed.

Preliminary investigations from the fire command revealed that the fire was caused by indiscriminate disposal of a cigarette butt, which ignited the dry vegetation.

The Ghana National Fire Service has urged the public to exercise caution and avoid careless disposal of flammable materials, especially during the dry season.
