Church building turns classroom for pupils of Gbawe Methodist Primary

A dilapidated building of the Methodist Church has come to the rescue of pupils of Gbawe Methodist ‘1’ Basic school where two classes – four and five have been studying together in one classroom without any demarcation.

A visit by Adom TV to the facility revealed the frustration of pupils and teachers during lesson hours who have called on the government to, as a matter of urgency, relocate them.

meanwhile, an almost completed six-unit classroom block by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for the school has been left unattended to, for years.

The is situation is not only peculiar to the upper primary pupils but the nursery and kindergarten pupils who are also learning on the corridors of the school’s library.

Another sad spectacle of the school is that the library has been converted into a classroom for the class three pupils and computers meant for teaching and learning ICT have been parked to make to make room for studies.

The School’s Management Committee chairman, Godfred Laryea,said effort made by his team to get keys to the uncompleted GETFund project for temporal use have failed.

Although teachers of the school say they are unhappy about the state of affairs because it is hampering effective teaching and learning, they refused to speak to the news team for fear of victimisation.

The Municipal Director of Education, Felicia Agyibea Okai, responding to the situation on Adom TV said her outfit was doing everything possible to find a lasting solution but was unable to give timelines as to when the problem will be addressed.
