Former Ghana head coach Chris Hughton remains energetic and eager to embrace a new challenge.
The 66-year-old, who has managed clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Brighton & Hove Albion, recently reflected on his coaching journey, including his stint with the Ghana national team.
Speaking to Voice Online at a Show Racism the Red Card event last month, Hughton shared his thoughts on the experience.
“First and foremost, I’ve been very fortunate that I was able to, as a player, represent the Republic of Ireland where my mother is from and then also to represent Ghana as head coach where my father is from.”
Hughton acknowledged the differences between club and international management, noting, “International management is very different – at club level, it’s about day to day, it’s about working with players, it’s about influencing players, whereas international football is about games.”
His tenure with Ghana ended following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where the team was eliminated in the group stage.
