A 36-year-old job seeker, Foster Nyarko, has been sentenced to jail for stealing a mobile phone from an office at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra.
Nyarko was convicted after pleading guilty to stealing a Samsung A54 5G mobile phone valued at GH¢4,999, belonging to a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ.
The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, sentenced him to 13 months for unlawful entry and two years for stealing, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Nyarko pleaded for leniency and vowed not to repeat the offense.
According to Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, the complainant, Celis-Jane Nyadroh, reported that on October 23, 2024, Nyarko had approached CHRAJ’s front desk, claiming he was following up on a job application at the Human Resource Department.
He then entered the complainant’s office on the first floor in her absence and stole her phone.
The theft was reported to the Ministries Police Station on October 24, 2024.
On January 30, 2025, Nyarko was caught attempting a similar theft at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. Management apprehended him, and CCTV footage linked him to the CHRAJ incident.
On January 31, 2025, he was taken to the crime scene, where he admitted to stealing the phone.
