A Chinese national, Dai Mengsheng, who was arraigned before the Takoradi District Court on an alleged murder charge, has been granted police enquiry bail.
His bail was set at GH¢500,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be justified. The police have also seized his passport to ensure his availability for court proceedings.
The bill of indictment, a crucial document outlining the charges against him, is expected to be ready for the High Court within two to three weeks.
Mengsheng was initially charged with preparation to commit murder, contrary to Sections 19 and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
The charge was based on legal advice from the Attorney General’s office in Sekondi.
He was arrested on February 14, 2025, in Tarkwa, Western Region, after businessman David Anthony Nicol-Sey lodged a complaint with the police.
Mengsheng was later transferred to the Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further investigations.
