Chieftaincy dispute: Armed men attack Kwahu Atibie palace

There was near pandemonium at Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern region after armed men allegedly stormed the chief’s palace.
According to reports, the armed men belonging to a faction claiming ownership of the stool stormed the chief’s palace and vandalized properties worth thousands of cedis.
A resident in the town who spoke to Adom News said the macho men started shooting sporadically when they stormed by the palace.
He indicated that, this caused fear and panic and residents especially women and children fled for their lives.
He said the people have abandoned their homes for fear of reprisal attacks.
Meanwhile, police Mpraeso are currently at the scene to prevent any more attacks.
The Mpraeso District Police Commander, ASP Francis Oppong Agyare who confirmed that attack is due to the chieftaincy dispute in the area.
However, he said the other faction who currently occupy the stool is resorting to legal process to get the matter resolved.
He revealed that, the current chief of Atibie now operates in his private residence to prevent any clashes with the other faction.
As an immediate measure, ASP Oppong Agyare an emergency DISEC meeting will be held to find lasting solution to the problem.
