The chief of Buduburam, Nana Kojo Essel has appealed to residents to exercise restraint as an investigation has begun into a rock blasting that claimed three lives and left scores injured.
Nana Essel has charged residents not to take the laws into their own hands by launching a reprisal attack on the contractor as planned.
Addressing his people on Tuesday, Nana Kojo Essel said, they would make sure that all affected victims are compensated and urged them to allow the contractor to continue the work.
He warned against politicisation of the issue in order not to derail the justice the people deserve.
The accident occurred on Monday afternoon during a rock-blasting operation along the Buduburam section of the Accra-Winneba highway as part of a construction project by Nag Fairmont.
Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar, Central Regional Minister, Marigold Assan and some government officials on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on the chief of Gomoa Buduburam and some affected victims.
During the visit, the Omankrado of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Kwesi Quansah, known as Akwesi Alhaji called for calm while Nananom engages government and the contractor to compensate the affected victims.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm also entreated Buduburam residents not to engage in any action that will wreak havoc.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has begun investigation onto the cause of the rock blast accident.
The Ministry said it working closely with the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to confirm the number of people affected and to ensure that those injured receive the necessary medical attention.
