The Chief of Afrisipa, a mining community in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Nana Bonini Nkrawiri V, has appealed to the government to fully integrate the Global Institute of Mines and Safety (GIMS) into the public education system.

According to him, this move would enable more young people to receive specialized training in mining and construction, equipping them with essential skills for employment in major companies such as Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti.

With Newmont set to commence operations in the area, Nana Bonini Nkrawiri V encouraged residents to take advantage of the institute’s programs to boost their employability in the sector.

The chief made these remarks when the school paid a courtesy call on the Afrisipa Traditional Council and presented a new batch of students to him and his elders at the palace.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of GIMS, Larry Gabriel Yennugu, underscored the institute’s role in training students in the operation of heavy machinery, including dump trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, mobile cranes, and caterpillars—key equipment in the mining and construction industries.
