Chief Biney blasts Akufo-Addo over claim NDC will cancel free SHS

A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says anyone who thinks the party is against the implementation of the free Senior High School (SHS) programme is getting it all wrong.

According to Chief Biney, the NDC as a social democratic party will always welcome social intervention programmes that would help improve the life of the ordinary Ghanaians.

“Anyone, regardless of who the person is, that will say the NDC will cancel free SHS when we come to power is not well. Our issue is whether the schools can accommodate the numbers,” he said.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show, Chief Biney explained the NDC was more interested in a progressive education and not just a free SHS.

“Free SHS has come to stay but Mahama is saying that he will review the policy when he is elected due to its numerous challenges,” he clarified.

Chief Biney’s comment comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is reported to have said the NDC will cancel the free SHS policy if it wins the 2020 elections.

Speaking on the first day of a three-day tour in the Greater Accra region, the President noted that the opposition party is asking Ghanaians to vote for them in the 2020 election so they could come back to office and cancel the programme.
