Officials of the National Ambulance Service Dispatch Centre have sent a strong warning to prank callers who interrupt the work of the emergency services.
The command centre where emergency calls are picked and re-routed to the police are therefore advocating strict sanctions for such people.
Official in-charge of the centre, Margaret Nartey, told Joy News that as early as Thursday morning, the centre had received more than 200 prank calls within an hour.
She said about 10 ‘real calls’ have come through, adding that the rest were all pranks.
The centre which uses the call number 112, the new emergency number, now serves as a synchronized port of call for all forms of emergencies – Police, NADMO, Fire Service and the Ambulance Service.
