The Accra Sports Stadium has recently undergone major renovations as part of the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) initiative to elevate the country’s stadiums to international standards.
Following a ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the Baba Yara Stadium due to its inadequate playing surface, Ghana was left without a venue for home matches.
This raised concerns that the Black Stars might have to play their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan overseas.
In response, the Sports Ministry and the NSA intensified efforts to upgrade key stadiums nationwide.
Last weekend, CAF officials conducted inspections at both the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium.
Subsequently, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that the Accra Sports Stadium has received conditional approval to host the match against Sudan’s Falcons.
Following this approval, the NSA released images highlighting the enhancements made at the Accra Sports Stadium.
These photos showcase improvements to the playing surface, dugouts, washrooms, dressing rooms, and media stands.
The Black Stars are set to face Sudan, coached by former Ghana manager Kwesi Appiah, on Friday, October 11, in Accra, before travelling to Libya for their next qualifier at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
Ghana’s coach, Otto Addo, is facing mounting pressure to deliver a victory, as the team has yet to win in the qualifiers.
They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and drew 1-1 with Niger in Berkane.
Currently, the Black Stars sit in third place in Group F, with just one point from two matches.
