Treatment of common colds, headache, stomach aches, hypertension and bacterial infections will be free under the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
According to a former Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, these diseases will be covered under the Free Primary Healthcare Plan announced by former President John Mahama.
He said analysis done by the NDC has revealed the current National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has failed to address the healthcare needs of Ghanaians, hence their decision to introduce a primary healthcare policy to meet the needs of the poor.
Should the NDC win the December polls, the former Deputy Information Minister said they will roll out the policy and streamline the NHIS policy.

“Free Primary Healthcare is a better option while polishing up NHIS and dedicating it to resolving more complex challenges in healthcare financing,” he stressed.
The former Deputy Information Minister said he was not surprised people were doubting the viability of the policy after it failed to implement the one-time premium.
The fact that we did do the one-time premium does not mean this cannot be done. When you fail WASSCE exams; won’t you write again? he quizzed.
He was certain with former President Mahama’s healthcare policy, cost as a barrier to accessing care at the primary level will be eliminated.
