Charles Gyamfi, a cocoa farmer from the Tano North district in the Ahafo Region, has been adjudged 2019’s National Best Farmer for his achievements in the agricultural sector.
He received the prestigious award at the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration themed ‘Enhancing Small-Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development’ held in Ho in the Volta Region.
Mr Gyamfi was crowned for his effort in boosting the agriculture sector with his vast plantation of roots and tubers as well as livestock.

The nation’s current best farmer can boast of 10 acres of cassava, four acres of yam, 20 acres of cocoyam, 16.5 acres of garden eggs, 500 acres of cocoa, 10 acres of oil palm, 30 acres of plantain, 25 acres of citrus and 70 acres of cashew.
He is also a proud owner of two acres of legumes and 20 acres of teak/timber.
With regards to his animal enterprise, Mr Gyamfi has large ruminants constituting 75 cattles, 25 goats, 2,000 layers of poultry and additional five boxes of bee hives, three fish ponds typically tilapia and catfish and 1,000 snails.

The national award comes with a cheque of GH¢ 536,000.00 which was presented to him by the President on the occasion.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr Gyamfi pledged to integrate all farmers and motivate them to work hard for the nation’s progress.

“I am happy one of the newly created regions won the overall. I am thankful for the disintegration perhaps had it not been that creation, I might not have won the award,” he said.
The 1st runner up was from Ashanti Region, Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebour followed by 2nd runner up from the Upper West, Abdullahi Atiku Seidu.
