Cecilia Dapaah Case: Jewelry returned to Manhyia Palace, still claimed as stolen – Lawyer

-

The ongoing criminal trial of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s house helps has taken a new turn, with the lawyer for one of the accused persons suggesting that the jewelry reported stolen by Madam Dapaah belonged to the wife of Otumfuo Osei Tutu I and had been returned to the Manhyia Palace.

Madam Dapaah had testified in court on March 12 that her personal jewelry, including diamond and gold pieces, was among the valuable items stolen from her storage room at her Abelenkpe residence in 2023.

However, on Monday, Augustine Gyamfi, the lawyer for the second accused person, Sarah Adjei, presented an alternative claim.

He suggested that the jewelry had been held by Madam Dapaah’s late brother, who was a sub-chief (Numoa Hene) in the Ashanti Kingdom’s chieftaincy setup. Gyamfi argued that her late brother had unduly kept the jewelry and passed it on to her after his death.

In response, Madam Dapaah denied this claim, calling it “news” and “history to me.” She also clarified that she did not have CCTV cameras at her residence at the time of the alleged theft.

When approached by JoyNews Legal Affairs Correspondent for a comment on the lawyer’s suggestion, Madam Dapaah initially hesitated before stating, “I answered it in court,” and then walked away with her husband.
