The personality of the established businessman was spearheaded with all manner of accusations far back in 2015. The cases of accusations which counted on several brief facts submitted by the prosecutor came to reality that it lacked certainty.

The prosecutor in several instances at the court called for adjournment which was granted by the judge to further investigate the accused businessman but rounded up to no avail.

It continued until on Tuesday, 24th November, 2015 – Her Honour Afi A. Kudomor got tired with the continuous adjournment procedure and angrily questioned the prosecutor which subsequently made her to struck out the case.

In her ruling on that same day, the judge in the Circuit Court 9 categorically and in plain direct words discharged the accused businessman and other six people for lack of evidence.

Mrs. Afi Kudomor stated clearly that, “the case is hereby struck out for want of prosecution. Accused persons are discharged.”

She added, “The prosecution has been given several opportunities to start hearing in this matter but to no avail. The court on 28/09/15 gave the prosecution the last opportunity to put their house in order and start hearing this matter on the next adjourned date of 29/10/15 after the State Attorney prayed the court for about a month’s adjournment to put their house in order.

“On 29/10/15, the court was magnanimous enough to grant a further adjournment of a month to enable them put their house in order. Today it is the State Attorney’s prayer for a month adjournment but the court is not minded to grant it because the liberties of the accused persons are at stake here.

“The case is hereby struck out for want of prosecution. Accused persons are discharged. Accused persons can always be arranged before the court if prosecution is ready and minded to do so”

What’s even more intriguing is the fact that since 2015, the prosecution has never revisited the case, effectively admitting defeat due to a dearth of substantial evidence.

This revelation underscores the integrity of the legal system and highlights the importance of due process in ensuring fairness and protecting individual rights.

Below are court documents that shed light on this extraordinary case, revealing the twists and turns that led to the exoneration of Alifa Adams and his co-accused individuals.

This gripping tale serves as a testament to the power of the legal system and its ability to uphold justice in the face of adversity.

Amma Frimpomaa donates water supply facility to Odumaseman Senior High School https://www.adomonline.com/amma-frimpomaa-donates-water-supply-facility-to-odumaseman-senior-high-school/ Fri, 03 Jul 2020 09:39:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1821672 The Girls Dormitory of the Odumaseman Senior High School, located at Odumasi in the Sunyani West Municipality in the Bono region, can now boast of a Merchanised Borehole water facility constructed by the Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah.

The completed borehole is expected to serve the entire Girls Dormitory after several years of students’ grapple with water issues.

The Municipal Director of Education, Issah Baffoe led the commissioning ceremony.

The Headmaster of Odumaseman Senior High School, Joseph Abudu, who received the water facility, was very appreciative of the gesture and thanked her and her team excitedly.

According to Madam Dwumah, who is also a native of the area, the building of the borehole formed part of her annual donations to hospitals, clinics, and orphanages.

She said this time around she decided to target the school in her hometown Odomaseman Senior High School.

“I was informed that they need a borehole for their Girls Dormitory so my donations for this year focused on the school. There was this situation where the girls always go outside the school boundaries in search of an essential commodity like water. This was very disturbing to say the least,” she lamented.

She believed strongly that what she had done will go a long way to address the water challenges at the Girls Dormitory.

She further explained that the project was long completed around the month of May but because of the COVID-19 period they couldn’t officially hand over the water facility.

“Since President Nana Akufo-Addo announced that final year students can go back to school, we decided to use the opportunity to commission the Borehole for it to be used as the students continue to stay in school,” the boss of SIC Life Savings And Loans noted.

She went on to add that this is a time that water had become critical, especially where students need to observe strict preventive COVID-19 protocols by continuously washing their hands.

“I am personally glad that this project has seen the light of day. I urge all the students to take good care of it and further challenge the school authorities to keep a close eye on this water facility to help us maintain it and prolong its lifespan,” she appealed.

Madam Dwumah also advised the final year students to study hard and prepare well for their exam whilst observing and obeying all safety and preventive protocols associated with the Coronavirus pandemic.

Prof. Owusu, whose first four-year term comes to an end on July 31, 2020, has led the University of Ghana as Vice-Chancellor since he was first appointed in August 2016.

He articulated a seven-point vision aimed at ensuring financial stability and instilling financial discipline and transparency while creating an enabling environment for academic work to thrive; reformation and transformation of attitudes and mindsets; completing old projects and ensuring new ones are embarked upon; raising a minimum of US$20 million and creating an endowment to ensure financial stability, among others.

The Green Team project has seen the planting of over 20,000 economic and non-economic trees on campus as part of environmental preservation. In addition, the Independent Power Supply team has brought about significant enhancements in lighting on campus, savings to energy costs, and enhancement in security coverage through the installation of CCTV cameras. By and large, various milestones have been achieved under the strategic teams.

Other initiatives credited to Prof. Owusu include reforms in finance, audit, procurement and logistics.

There has also been a boost to the fostering and strengthening of global partnerships with educational institutions, business and industry and sustaining the University’s image as a centre of excellence.

Strict adherence to protocols will defeat coronavirus – NCCE https://www.adomonline.com/strict-adherence-to-protocols-will-defeat-coronavirus-ncce/ Tue, 30 Jun 2020 16:21:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1819980 Ho West District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Dodji Adjei has said the coronavirus pandemic would be defeated if the people strictly adhered to the precautionary measures.

He said the people wielded power over the disease and encouraged them to continue to follow the protocols for an immediate end to the crisis.

Mr Adjei said these during the NCCE’s COVID-19 public education campaign in selected communities, which was being supported by the Government and the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

The campaign was to help deepen the awareness and prevention of coronavirus as well as fight stigmatization among the people in the District.

He noted that as prevention remained the key to fighting the virus, handwashing with soap under running water, physical distancing, the regular use of alcohol-based hand-sanitizer, and other requirements were not an option.

Mr Adjei reminded communities of the compulsory use of facemasks, to prevent contamination and recommended the cleaning of objects and washing of surface that had been exposed with soap or alcohol-based sanitizers before touching them.

He said the District had recorded some positive cases, and that it was important to ensure that no individual or family was stigmatized in any community, adding that stigmatization caused people to hide their status and symptoms, leading to a rise in the spread of the virus.

The Ho West District Office of the Commission visited communities including Abutia Kissiflui Market, Abutia Kloe, Abutia Agorve, Abutia Teti, Tsawoenu, Tsito, Anyirawase, Awudome Kwanta, and Anfoeta Tsebi.

Also sensitized were communities in Saviefe Agorkpo, Akoviefe, Dzolo Gbogame, Dzolokpuita, Vane, Amedzofe, Akome Agate, Kpedze township, Aflakpe, Kpoeta and Dodome Avexa.

The NCCE in the Volta Region received two sports utility vehicles equipped with public address system from the Presidency for the campaign, aiding access to hard to reach areas.

Volta Region NPP scores govt 72% on promise delivery in region https://www.adomonline.com/volta-region-npp-scores-govt-72-on-promise-delivery-in-region/ Tue, 30 Jun 2020 12:38:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1819976 The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanyah, has rated the government 72% on the delivery of campaign promises in the region.

He explained that the government prioritises the development and well-being of people in the region hence remains committed to redeeming its promises.

Speaking at a press conference in Ho in response to comments of the government’s unfulfilled promises by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Woanyah enumerated achievements chalked by the Akufo-Addo-led-administration in the Volta Region within its three and half-year administration.

He said that land has been acquired for the construction of affordable housing units off the Ho-Kpetoe road, adding that efforts are being made to extend utilities to the site to attract investors.

He stated that the construction of the 90-kilometre Ho-Aflao road and completion of the five districts water supply scheme would also impact positively on the commencement of the affordable housing project.

He said that the Volta Region had received its fair share of the disbursement of the $1 million per constituency by the Ministry of Special initiative, debunking claims by the NDC that the government had not delivered on this promise in the Volta Region.

Mr Woanyah indicated that the distribution of ambulances to all constituencies in the region, construction of institutional toilets, and 1 district 1 warehouse projects were financed by funds allocated under the $1 million per constituency policy.

The Ho, Ketu North and Hohoe Municipalities have already been provided Warehouses, while procurement is underway for the acquisition of land for the commencement of work in other districts across the region.

He added that the government is in the process of acquiring a land for the construction of an industrial park in the Adaklu district.

In the health sector, he said that government retooled, reequipped and converted Ho Teaching Hospital, undertook rehabilitation of various existing health facilities, while districts hospitals would be constructed at the newly created districts.

“Today, Trafalgar [Ho Teaching Hospital] is an entire hospital and people will not travel to Korle Bu and 37 hospitals to access their referral needs”, he stressed.

He also mentioned the restoration of nurses trainee allowances and employment of backlogs of trained nurses and other health workers since 2010 as fulfilled promises.

“Another example is the heavy investment made in the Drone Delivery System in the health sector, one of the largest drone delivery systems in the world. But the NDC characteristically does not see this as any investment in the health sector. Not even the procurement and deployment of over 300 ambulances fitted with all modern intensive care gadgets, single largest deployment since our independence.”

Mr Woanyah warded off claims the government had failed in the provision of potable water and abandoned the Adidome Five Districts Water Scheme, explaining the Mahama administration failed to secure funding for phase three of the project.

“..the NPP government has secured a loan facility of £11.5 million and approved by parliament to undertake the phase 3 which is the distribution of 5,000 gallons of water daily to 5 districts which include Central Tongu, North Tongu, Adaklu, Agotime-Ziope districts and the Ho Municipality” he added.

He added that a Spanish grant of $3.78 million under the Water Supply Improvement Project has been secured for the construction of 18 water supply systems in 35 communities in 4 districts, with an estimated population of 95,000.

The Chairman explained that supply and installation of pumps would have been completed if not for the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, which slowed construction works.

He highlighted government’s heavy investment in the education sector which includes the restoration of the teacher trainees allowances, implementation of the free Senior High School policy and its associated promises “escaped their [NDC] lenses”.

He asserted that NDC can not match achievements of the NPP in the implementation of educational policies and project in the Volta and Oti Regions, as almost all second cycle and tertiary institutions in the regions have benefited from either the provision of, furniture, infrastructure or vehicles during the previous and current NPP administrations.

“Is it not pathetic and misleading for the NDC to make the claim the current government abandoned the Eastern Corridor road?”, he quizzed.

Mr Woanyah added that the Eastern Corridor project which saw the bitumen surfacing of the Kadjebi-Dodi Pepesu stretch under the John Kuffuor administration and some progress on the Asikuma-Peki stretch during the tenure of the late President Mills was abandoned when former President Mahama assumed office.

Mr Woanyah, however, indicated that works had resumed on the Hohoe-Jasikan stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road, while the Sokode-Ho dual carriage, Ho-Aflao road and the Fodome-Hohoe road are also being constructed. He added that procurement processes have been completed for work to commence on Klikor-Aflao road.

He accused the NDC of being ignorant of the One District, One Factory concept which is a private-public partnership, and urged the NDC parliamentarians in the Volta Region to take advantage of the policy and bring in investors.

Mr Woanyah said the NPP government completed and paid over 70% of the construction cost of the Ho-Airport, though the economic viability of the project is yet to be realised.

“Having dismissed the bias assessment and false claim of the NDC, i wish to state that a lot has happened in the past 3 years of the Nana Addo government…”, he said.

He emphasised that the Volta Region has been shortchanged by the NDC considering the unflinching support people of the region had given the opposition party compared to development projects allocated to the area by the latter.

Mr Woanyah also mentioned the ongoing construction of sporting facilities in Ho and Hohoe to help unearth and nurture young talents in the region.

He, therefore, indicated that the NPP has performed well in governement, hence must be retained come December 7, 2020 and give enable the Akufo-Addo administration “4 more to do more”.

Defeated MP aspirant replies John Boadu over bicycles https://www.adomonline.com/defeated-mp-aspirant-replies-john-boadu-over-bicycles/ Thu, 25 Jun 2020 19:38:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1817086 An aspirant in the just-ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, Eric Amankwa Blay, reacting to calls to return bicycles he took from delegates after his defeat, says they were not gifts.

There was drama at Assin North Constituency last weekend as the aspiring parliamentary candidate, Mr Blay, hounded delegates for some 250 bicycles he distributed ahead of the elections.

Following the incident, the party’s General Secretary, John Boadu, issued a stern warning to Mr Blay to return the bicycles or be sacked from the party.

However, Mr Blay maintains the motive behind the distribution of the bicycles was for the 2020 campaign if he won.

“The thing is that when I was going round with my campaign team last year, we found out that we needed to walk from one village to the other during campaigns in the electoral areas; so we planned to give them bicycles to make it easy.

“We came back and sat down with my financiers and at the end of the day they also agreed that we have to give bicycles to all the delegates,” Mr Amankwa said.

RELATED:

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM, he stressed there were underlying terms and conditions which delegates agreed to prior to the distribution.

“The condition was that if I win then you take the bicycles but as for the transportation and a little bit of token it will be given to you; that was the condition.

“So it was a winning bonus, not a gift or a donation because you know that if you are going to play a match and at the end of the day you lose you don’t pay losing bonus but a winning bonus and they also understood it,” he explained.

Piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea have become noted criminal activities and have been of increasing concern to the maritime sector.

Recent attacks are becoming more widespread and violent.

A report by the International Bureau on Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships suggests that there were at least 10 separate piracy attacks off Ghana’s coasts between 2015 and 2019.

The Gulf of Guinea is noted as a hot spot for piracy, accounting for the vast majority of sea-going hostage seizures and kidnappings globally, the International Maritime Bureau has also said.

The bureau has noted that though piracy incidents have reduced in recent times: “The Gulf of Guinea continues to be a concern for piracy and armed robbery-related activities with kidnappings of crew members increasing in both scale and frequency.

“It is important that shipmasters and owners continue to report all actual, attempted, and suspected incidents to ensure that an accurate picture of these attacks emerges and action is taken against these criminals before the incidents further escalate.”

NDC vs EC: Supreme Court gives judgment https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-vs-ec-supreme-court-gives-judgment/ Thu, 25 Jun 2020 11:28:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1817361 Ghana’s Supreme Court has given its judgment on the brouhaha over the compilation of a new Voters Register by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

But, there is confusion over exactly what the judgment means.

While the General-Secretary of the ruling Nationa Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, insists that the ruling makes it clear that the EC should accept the old voter identity card as a prerequisite for the upcoming registration exercise, others were of the opinion that the reliefs sought by the NDC were thrown out per the judgment.

“The court granted the NDC’s relief two and three but in giving the order it said the exercise should take place in compliance with CL 91 and 126 as amended. That’s what’s causing the confusion now,” Joy News’ Joseph Ackah-Blay explained.

However, Joseph Ackah-Blay reports that the Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision ruled that the EC has the power to compile a new register.

Private citizen, Mark Takyi-Banson and the opposition NDC filed the case in court asking that it stops the EC from compiling the register or allow the use of the birth certificate and voters identity card by prospective voters as proof of identification

The EC’s arguments

The Commission in its legal arguments said the existing voter register, which was compiled in 2012 and revised since by limited exercises, has been held by the apex court as not being reasonably credible.

Legal team for the EC

The EC makes references to the cases of Abu Ramadan and Another v. the EC and another and Kwasi Danso Acheampong v the EC and other.

It argues the two cases raised questions about the existing voters register with one holding that using the National Health Insurance card to get on the register was contrary to law.

The Commission says this means “the credibility of the register compiled pursuant to C.I. remains in doubt save the registrations done with the voter identification cards before the coming into effect of C.I. 72.”

The commission further says not using the voters’ identity card and birth certificate will afford it an opportunity to compile a credible register.

Deputy AG speaks

Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, urged the apex court not to impede the EC’s quest to obey the law. He says the EC has admitted to training its officers not to obey a constitutional instrument and that was enough evidence to support the view that the current card cannot be used in the registration exercise.

Panel

The seven-member panel that heard the case was presided over by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah. Other panel members were Justices Jones Dotse, Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Sule Gbagegbe, Samuel K. Marful-Sau, Nene Amegatcher, and Professor Ashie Kotey.

Decision and orders

The court in its decision held that the EC is an independent body and will only be directed by the court if it acts contrary to law.

There was disagreement between the NDC and the AG’s office over whether or not the court allowed the use of the existing voters’ identity card.

The NDC General Secretary told pressmen that the court had ruled in the party’s favour.

The AG’s office, however, holds a contrary view.

Lawyers for both parties are currently at the court premises waiting for the written order of the court for clarity.

Major political party in Nigeria wades into demolition of High Commission’s property in Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/major-political-party-in-nigeria-wades-into-demolition-of-high-commissions-property-in-ghana/ Tue, 23 Jun 2020 19:28:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1816169 Nigeria’s largest opposition political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has blamed the demolition of the country’s High Commission‘s property in Ghana on its President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Its Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement described the demolition of the building as a huge contempt.

According to the party, the presidency could have stopped through engagements at the highest level of diplomatic relations, adding he failed as a result of sheer incompetence and incapacity to articulate their national pride before other world leaders.

Demolition of Embassy: Buhari APC Have Brought Shame to Nigeria – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the demolition of the Nigeria Embassy in Ghana has further shown how Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) incompetence has destroyed the respect and honour other nations had for our country.

The party said that the embarrassing situation in Ghana has again highlighted the poor rating of the Buhari Presidency by other nations, exposed its lack of capacity to exude our nation pride as well as its failure to meaningfully engage other world leaders on diplomatic issues.

The PDP described as disheartening that since the incident. President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC have not demonstrated the littlest effort to preserve our nation’s integrity, beyond the tepid statements by our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema.

Our party holds that the demolition of our nation’s embassy is a huge contempt, which the Buhari Presidency could have stopped through engagements at the highest level of diplomatic relations, but failed as a result of sheer incompetence and incapacity to articulate our national pride before other world leaders.

This situation has further explained why attacks on Nigerians and Nigerian interests in foreign lands had escalated under the Buhari administration, with Nigerians being harassed and killed in various parts of the world by assailants, who take advantage of the incompetence and weaknesses of the current government in Nigeria.

The PDP particularly recalls how the Buhari administration exhibited unpardonable weakness and failed to protect innocent Nigerians who were being killed in violent xenophobic attacks in South Africa last year.

The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to wake up both to his domestic and international responsibilities and save our nation from further embarrassing situations across the globe.

Signed

Supreme Court throws out GIBA’s case against NCA https://www.adomonline.com/supreme-court-throws-out-gibas-case-against-nca/ Tue, 23 Jun 2020 14:11:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1816105 The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision dismissed a case filed by the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) challenging the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) conditional assessment system.

GIBA had contended that its members have the absolute right and discretion over the decision to convert their press services programmes into a Pay TV service.

The Association argued that neither the NCA nor the oversight Ministry has the right to decide on the shape and form that their contents should be offered to the general public.

GIBA stated that the choice of free and unhindered access to their content was made with approvals when they applied to the NCA for authorisation to use their regulated spectrum for the delivery of Free-to-Air media and press services programmes to the people.

The legal team for the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA)

The writ filed at the Supreme Court in January 2020, asked for a number of reliefs.

Key among them is that the Conditional Access (CA) System, constitutes an unnecessary restraint on the establishment and operation of private media.

GIBA also wanted an order directed at the NCA to remove from the Minimum Requirements for Reception of Digital Terrestrial and Satellite Television Services, any system in the nature of Conditional Access that encrypts or blocks the content of Free-To-Air television channels from being received.

The NCA introduced the CA System as a mandatory requirement which effectively blocks media content from Free-To- Air broadcasters unless certain government spelled criteria have been met.

Free-To-Air TV and media according to GIBA is a right guaranteed under Article 162(3) of the 1992 Constitution, and the viewing public would be denied that if government is to place restraints on that.

Decision

The panel, presided over by Chief Justice Kwesi Anin Yeboah, in its decision held that the case raises no cause of action. The panel noted that the NCA had intended the use of the system to take off in June 2020 but has since rescheduled it.

The legal team for the National Communications Authority (NCA)

The court said the claims of GIBA were therefore an anticipatory breach since the policy had not taken off.

The panel further noted that GIBA had failed to demonstrate that any action by the NCA had breached any provision in the constitution including the ones relating to press freedom.

The panel members who heard the case included Justices Dotse, Gbadegbe, Marful-Sau Sau, Nene Amegatcher, Prof Kotey, Mariama Owusu with the Chief Justice presiding.

Kennedy Agyapong’s savage response to his daughter’s apology (Watch) https://www.adomonline.com/kennedy-agyapongs-savage-response-to-his-daughters-apology-watch/ Tue, 23 Jun 2020 09:04:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1815956 Ghanaian legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, says he has no intention of taking back his daughter despite a much-publicised apology for her waywardness on Father’s Day.

Anell Agyapong in a post on Facebook said she was sorry for being a source of ridicule for her father.

She posted: “Dear Daddy, My waywardness has become the cause of your ridicule, which can tarnish your integrity and image, and I implore your forgiveness. I’ve made better choices now and will continue to.

“Please Daddy, if one day you still find me worthy as your daughter, kindly have mercy on me and deliver me from myself.”

However, it appears the pleas of the ‘prodigal daughter’ have fallen on deaf ears.

Mr Agyapong in an interview on Atinka TV, reported by graphic.com, said he is no longer going to pay her fees and would rather use the funds to solicit a sex worker who has AIDS.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament said he was done with forgiving his daughter who is now an adult.

It would be recalled that the legislator in an interview on Oman FM said he was thrilled that his daughter had gone astray in life and become a drug addict.

According to him, he did all he could to make her successful in life but she was rather interested in cocaine and being a philanderer.

He said he was devastated when she dropped out of California Institute of Architecture after he had paid a $42,000 tuition fee for that semester.

Mr Agyapong added that he heard recently that she wanted $30,000 to attend Ohio State University but he was not going to pay because he had spent $168,000 on her education without accruing any benefit.

The evacuees made up of 10 diplomats were on Monday airlifted in a chartered flight under the auspices of the German Consulate in Accra to the German city of Dusseldorf.

The exercise was the second in the series of evacuation exercises to be embarked on the Ghanaian Community in Germany.

The Ghanaian Community in Germany is expected in the next few weeks to airlift some One Thousand Ghanaians with resident’s permit in Europe as part of the decision of the Government of Ghana to ease the ban on travel by a special dispensation on the government to government level.

The evacuees will arrive at Dusseldorf city where they emplane to their various destinations in Europe namely Holland, Switzerland, Italy among others as the European Union (EU) has opened up its borders after the fight against Coronavirus.

Speaking to the media at the departure hall of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Jones Owusu Yeboah, a representative of the Ghanaian Community in Germany in Accra said the community in its first exercise was able to evacuate One Hundred and Seventy-Nine stranded German nationals from Ghana under the same protocols.

According to him, it was upon the fact that the first exercise was successful that the community decided to extend the opportunity to Ghanaians with resident’s permit in Europe.

He said when evacuees disembark in Dusseldorf, they will be made to self-quarantine for two weeks before being tested for COVID-19 as part of the safety protocols in their various countries of destination.

He said the community, through a Whatsapp group, has identified about One Thousand stranded Ghanaians with resident’s permits and plans are underway to have them evacuated in accordance with the rules of engagement.

When asked why the large numbers in the plane, he explained that all beneficiaries have gone through the safety measures but the challenge with the numbers in the plane was that if “we were to ensure social distancing, the cost of travel would be unbearable for the beneficiaries who have much of the money in the lockdown.”

“At the moment every beneficiary is paying the amount of Seven Hundred and Fifty Euros as the cost of travel,” he added.

This as an initiative to enable many of these Ghanaians who left their jobs to come on a visit in Accra to go back and continue with their jobs after spending more than three months in the country.

He said in today’s exercise one woman who was travelling with the husband was rejected by Consular officials because she was unfit to travel in an aeroplane.

He took the opportunity to thank the leadership of the Ghanaian Community in Germany, the Government of Ghana and Germany government for buying into the ideas of the community to have people with legal permit evacuated though the borders of the country are still closed.

Covid-19: Why Ghana’s recovery figures have gone up – Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/covid-19-why-ghanas-recovery-figures-have-gone-up-akufo-addo/ Mon, 22 Jun 2020 06:30:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1815102 President Akufo-Addo has given the reason behind Ghana’s sudden jump in Covid-19 recovery figures.

Per the Ghana Health Service’s data, as of Saturday June 20, 10,473 persons had recovered from the disease with an active cases figure of 3,596, stoking a public debate.

Ghana has revised its policy for the discharge of Covid-19 patients as part of measures to reduce ‘rising cost in testing’ and ‘increasing workload’.

President Akufo-Addo in his 12th address to update the nation about the Covid-19 situation on Sunday said the spike in recovery figures were due to the World Health Organisation’s revised protocols.

There is now new evidence which states that after ten (10) to fourteen (14) days, a person, with no symptoms, is unlikely to transmit the virus to others, even if the person continues to test positive, the President explained.

President Akufo-Addo

RELATED STORIES

The President explained also that after three weeks of analysing and studying the update and recommendation and situating it in the Ghanaian context, Ghana had adopted the WHO policy.

Meanwhile, countries in the European Union, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and in Dubai are also following similar pathway.

At the outset of the pandemic, the scientific community and the WHO on  January 12, 2020, recommended two main criteria for declaring someone who has tested positive as having recovered from the disease.

The scientific thinking was that as long as you continue to test positive, you are capable of infecting others, hence the requirement for the two consecutive, negative tests before you are declared as having recovered.

However, in its revised policy. WHO explained the first is that you no longer have symptoms, and the second is that you are no longer capable of infecting others.

Full text: Akufo-Addo’s 12th address to the nation on measures to fight coronavirus https://www.adomonline.com/full-text-akufo-addos-12th-address-to-the-nation-on-measures-to-fight-coronavirus/ Sun, 21 Jun 2020 20:34:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1815080 Fellow Ghanaians, good evening.

It has been three and a half months since we begun our fight to defeat the Coronavirus pandemic in the country. It has, so far, been a co-ordinated and enhanced response, with tracing, testing, isolating, treating, and the maintenance of the relevant social distancing and hygiene protocols being the weapons we continue to employ to help contain the spread of the virus.

We are all agreed that this novel disease has thrust the whole world into unknown and unchartered territory, and we are having to learn as we go along. As part of the phased approach to return our lives, safely, back to normal, final year students in our tertiary institutions returned to school on Monday, 15th June, to prepare for and sit their exit examinations.

One week on, it has proved to be a relatively smooth exercise, with very few hitches recorded. I thank, in particular, the Vice Chancellors and other heads of our tertiary institutions for the support and co-operation offered Government towards its success. Indeed, decisions, like those being taken by the leadership of Sunyani Technical University, in the Bono Region, to sanction students, lecturers and non-teaching staff, who flout the COVID-19 protocols, reinforce the collective determination of the majority of Ghanaians to defeat the virus.

From tomorrow, Monday, 22nd June, the next batch of students, who will be going back to school, are final year senior high school students (SHS 3), and second year Gold Track students. On Thursday, I held consultations with members of both the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), and the Association of Principals of Technical Institutes (APTI), to agree on the modalities for the return of the students. Despite the short notice for the meeting, I was happy to see the impressive turnout of their executives from all parts of the country, and I am grateful for the wholehearted co-operation they pledged to Government.
Like their seniors at the University, SHS 3 students will be in school for a total of six (6) weeks, before sitting for the WASSCE exams over a period of two (2) weeks. SHS 2 Gold Track students, who are returning to complete their first semester like their Green Track colleagues have done, will be in school for six (6) weeks, before going on vacation.

All one thousand, one hundred and sixty-seven (1,167) Senior High Schools in the country have been fumigated and disinfected. Each student, teaching and non-teaching staff, invigilator and school administrator, numbering some eight hundred thousand (800,000), will be provided with three (3) pieces of reusable face masks, i.e. two (2) being provided tomorrow, and the third within a fortnight. Nonetheless, I encourage parents to provide their wards and children with at least one (1) face covering on their way to school. A total of eighteen thousand (18,000) Veronica Buckets, eight hundred thousand (800,000) pieces of two hundred millilitre sanitizers, thirty-six thousand (36,000) rolls of tissue paper, thirty-six thousand (36,000) gallons of liquid soap, and seven thousand, two hundred (7,200) thermometer guns have been distributed.

A maximum of twenty-five students will be permitted in each class. All day students in schools with boarding houses will be resident in these boarding houses, whilst day students, in schools without boarding facilities, will commute from home, and will be required to adhere to enhanced hygiene protocols; eating in dining halls will be in appropriate numbers; and no visitors to the schools will be allowed. There will be no mass gatherings and no sporting activities. Religious activities, under the new protocols, will be permitted. Social distancing and the wearing of face masks are obligatory in our schools.

One dormitory block in each senior high school is to be used as an isolation centre, in the event of a student falling sick. Again, each SHS has been mapped to a health facility, and care will be provided to the sick by nurses assigned to these schools.

Through the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, enough food supplies have been distributed to all schools. Government is also making available three hundred and fifty (350) buses and eight hundred and forty (840) pickup vehicles to senior high schools that did not receive vehicles in 2016. For the first time in our nation’s history, Government will absorb the WASSCE examination fees of the three hundred and thirteen thousand, eight hundred and thirty-seven (313,837) SHS 3 students who will sit for the exam. GH¢75.4 million will be spent on this.

These SHS 3 students, also referred to by some as the ‘Akufo-Addo graduates’, are the first group of beneficiaries of Government’s Free Senior High School policy to sit the WASSCE exams. 1.2 million children, the highest such enrolment in our nation’s history, because of this policy, are currently in senior high schools. Let us pause for a moment to consider what would have happened to the four hundred thousand (400,000) more students, who have entered Senior High School between 2017 and 2019, without this policy in place.

We introduced Free SHS because history, and the experiences of developed nations, have shown that the most efficient way to empower the population, and, thereby, guarantee the future of the nation, is by investing in education and skills training of the youth. This is because it is the people of Ghana, Ghanaians like you and I, and especially the youth of today, who are going to build Ghana. Without an educated populace, it will be difficult to transition from the status of a developing to a developed nation. Summing it up, that most noble Ghanaian, James Kwegyir Aggrey, said, a hundred years ago, and I quote, “I want all my people, my country women and men to be educated …, and thus render Africa indispensable in intellectual, spiritual and commercial products of the world.”

I take this opportunity to assure all parents and guardians that Government is determined to protect the lives of the eight hundred thousand (800,000) students, teachers and non-teaching staff, who will be returning to school from tomorrow. I will be the last person to put the lives of the ‘Akufo-Addo graduates’ at risk. It bears repeating that they must all adhere strictly to enhanced personal hygiene and social distancing protocols, regularly wash their hands with soap under running water, refrain from shaking hands, and wear masks to protect themselves and others. These rules apply to all of us.

Fellow Ghanaians, the experts told us right at the beginning of this pandemic that, whether the virus spreads or not, is dependent on our individual behaviour. Someone put it graphically that the virus has not got feet, and cannot move by itself, and that we, humans, spread it. The large majority of us continue to adhere to the protocols. Unfortunately, there are some who do not; others have slackened; and an unacceptably significant number have refused to obey them altogether. In such an atmosphere, if we do not take care, the virus will continue to spread, which will lead to intolerable pressure on our health facilities and care givers. Each one of us must be part of the fight to stop the spread of the virus.

Our approach to dealing with the virus, as I have always said, will be informed by the evolving science and data. At the outset of the pandemic, the scientific community and the World Health Organisation (WHO), on 12th January, 2020, recommended two main criteria for declaring someone who has tested positive as having recovered from the disease. The first is that you no longer have symptoms, and the second is that you are no longer capable of infecting others. Initially, the scientific thinking was that, as long you continue to test positive, you are capable of infecting others. Hence, the requirement for the two consecutive, negative tests before you are declared as having recovered. This was the science that informed the guidelines that Ghana has, so far, followed. However, there is now new evidence which states that, after ten (10) to fourteen (14) days, a person, with no symptoms, is unlikely to transmit the virus to others, even if the person continues to test positive. It is on this basis that WHO has updated its guidelines, as published per its Clinical Management of COVID-19 Interim Guidance, of 27th May, 2020, “as part of the clinical care pathway of a COVID-19 patient”. According to WHO, asymptomatic patients, i.e. those who have tested positive for the virus, but are not exhibiting any symptoms after fourteen (14) days, “are not likely to be infectious, and, therefore, are unlikely to be able to transmit the virus to another person”. After three (3) weeks of analysing and studying this update and recommendation, and situating it in the Ghanaian context, in line with the admonition by WHO to Member States, this new patient discharge/recovery policy has now been adopted by Ghana, as have some countries in the European Union, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and in Dubai.

As at Saturday, 20th June, the total number of positives, cumulatively, stands at fourteen thousand, and one hundred and fifty-four (14,154), out of the two hundred and seventy thousand, three hundred (270,300) tests conducted. Under the revised policy, five thousand, nine hundred and twenty-five (5,925) persons have recovered and been discharged. This brings the total number of recoveries to ten thousand, four hundred and seventy-three (10,473). The number of active cases is, thus, three thousand, five hundred and ninety-six (3,596). In our hospitals and isolation centres, we currently have twenty-four (24) persons severely ill, six (6) persons critically ill, with four (4) persons on ventilators. Eighty-five (85) persons have, regrettably, died.

This increased number of persons being discharged from our isolation and treatment centres brings in its wake yet another issue that we have to deal with – stigmatisation. It is obvious that stigmatisation is adding further dimensions to the already difficult problem of the pandemic. Part of the reason for the spread of the virus is the reluctance of some persons to admit they have tested positive, and go into quarantine for fear of being stigmatised, and, in the process, continue to be agents of the spread of the virus. Persons, who test positive for the virus, once they recover, do not pose any danger whatsoever to anyone, because the scientists tell us that they can no longer spread the virus. As I have said before, there is nothing shameful about contracting the virus, and, consequently, we do not have to lose our sense of community because of this pandemic.

Fellow Ghanaians, in line with our policy of providing optimal care for the sick, and reducing COVID-19 related deaths, Government continues to mobilise holding-bay, quarantine, isolation and treatment centres across the country. I thank the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for their admirable, civic gesture of making available their facility in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region; and the Catholic Bishops Conference for agreeing to the use of their facilities across the country as isolation centres in the fight against COVID-19. These are timely offers, which will ensure that our overall healthcare systems are not unduly burdened and overrun. Such institutions deserve the sincere appreciation of the entire nation, as does the gesture of the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, who has offered his 70-bed hospital in Toase, in the Ashanti Region, as a COVID-19 treatment centre.

As I indicated in my address to the nation last week, the great majority of cases are in the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions. For these two regions, I have approved further investment in the following areas:
• additional ICU bed facilities in Greater Accra Region;
• a new treatment centre for Ashanti Region;
• additional laboratories to strengthen clinical care to allow for real time results;
• more medicines, consumables and equipment; and
• formal arrangements for a pool of specialist health professionals to complement the respective resident multi-disciplinary health teams at various treatment centres.

We continue to be indebted to our health workers, and express sorrow over the deaths of Dr. Harry Owusu Boateng, a paediatrician at the SDA Hospital in Kwadaso, Kumasi, and Sophia Addo, a nurse with the Ghana Manganese Company Hospital in Tarkwa, who both died in the line of duty. May their souls rest in peace. I also urge the media to continue the positive work of public education they have been engaged in, especially, now, as restrictions are being systematically eased.

Before I conclude, let me remind all Ghanaians, once again, that the wearing of masks is mandatory. Leaving our homes without a face mask, a face covering, or a face shield on is an offence. The Police will conduct random checks in the enforcement of this directive. If you are arrested by the police defying this directive, your sanction could be severe. So, please, let us, at all times, wear our masks. I appeal to each and every one of you to take this as a personal challenge, and help rid Ghana of the virus.

Even though, we now have a better understanding of the dynamism of the virus in our country; even though the majority of people who contract the virus do not show any symptoms at all; and even though Ghanaians are not dying in the hundreds and thousands that were originally anticipated, we cannot afford to be complacent, and let our guard down. Let us remain focused, and adhere to the enhanced hygiene, social distancing and mask-wearing protocols, that have, and must, become part and parcel of our daily lives for the foreseeable future. We can do it, if we work at it.

Let me, in conclusion, wish the ‘Akufo-Addo graduates’, the SHS 3 students, and their seniors in Universities, the best of luck in their forthcoming examinations, which will be conducted in safety. Ghana needs them all for her progress.

May God bless us all, and our homeland Ghana, and make her great and strong.

I thank you for your attention.

What Gary-Al Smith’s Covid-19 status disclosure did for anti-stigma campaign https://www.adomonline.com/what-gary-al-smiths-covid-19-status-disclosure-did-for-anti-stigma-campaign/ Fri, 19 Jun 2020 16:49:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1814139 Joy Sports’ Gary Al-Smith in an unexpected post on June 18, announced that he had contracted the dreaded novel coronavirus.

He disclosed his status via social media as part of his effort to keep his friends, family and well-wishers up to speed with his condition from the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.

Gary is one of five members of staff at The Multimedia Group who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The JoySports editor and the four other affected team members, all asymptomatic, have been isolated in line with case management protocols and are responding well to treatment.

“After consultation with my family, we have decided that from tonight, I’ll be speaking on radio and TV about my experience,” he wrote on Facebook.

True to his word, the hearty journalist was on the screens Thursday night for his segment on JoyNews Prime.

In a conversation with anchor Ernest Kojo Manu, he revealed that his decision to show up for duty even after confirmation of his status is one way he believes the fight against stigmatisation of Covid-19 patients can be accelerated.

“Support is incredibly important. If you know somebody with Covid-19. This is not the time to distance yourself. Reach out because it can get lonely at this time,” he said while emphasising that he was doing well and that “Covid-19 is real.”

A cross-section of social media users and his colleagues sent messages of goodwill to encourage him through the recovery process.

JoyNews has since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus covered a number of stories of stigma suffered by patients, recovered individuals and health personnel following their contact with anything Covid-related.

President Akufo-Addo in his last address to the nation on Covid-19 case management bemoaned the attitude of some Ghanaians who have been shunning the company of individuals who test positive for Covid-19.

These among others are what seem to have compelled Gary Al-Smith to champion the agenda towards demystifying the disease and help stop the stigma.

Could this move have emboldened other infected persons to toe the line?

Other carriers have since Gary’s pronouncement, publicly announced their positive status. One of such individuals is a frontline health worker, Dr Kwabena Antwi-Boasiakoh.

“I just received my Covid-19 test result. I have tested positive,” he said on Twitter.

Dr Antwi-Boasiakoh has also been at the receiving end of many well wishes since his announcement on the social media platform on Tuesday night.

Stigmatisation has been cited by many health experts as a major impediment militating against the country’s bid to mitigate the impact of Covid-19.

As personalities in the limelight come forth publicly with their status, Ghana can only remain hopeful the development becomes the fuel that powers the engine of change in mindsets as we join hands to eradicate the canker.

You don’t need to be a carrier to champion the cause against stigma. Get educated on the health protocols, stay safe and spread love. Stop the stigma.

EC to present new Constitutional Instrument for vote transfer https://www.adomonline.com/ec-to-present-new-constitutional-instrument-for-vote-transfer/ Thu, 18 Jun 2020 20:56:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1813780 The Electoral Commission (EC) is to present a new Constitutional Instrument (CI) before parliament next week to amend the existing CI 94.

The new C.I is to allow eligible voters to transfers their votes after participating in the upcoming voters’ registration exercise.

The amendment has become necessary since the existing CI only permits the transfer of votes 12 months ahead of the elections.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu announced this while addressing the media on Thursday.

ALSO READ:

He noted that with barely 24 sitting days for Parliament to adjourn sine die, EC has to present the amended CI on time for its maturity before the House goes on recess.

“So I have informed the Commission to ensure that any rules of such must be submitted early enough [perhaps next weeks] if they want to see the maturation of the instrument,” he said.

The Suame MP also highlighted that the amended CI will permit students who are 18 years and above who are currently in school to transfer their votes after completion of their studies or during vacation.

“In the original CI voters cannot transfer within 12 months leading to the elections. But this year, by the time EC is done with the registration, we will be left with less than six months.

“So strictly and technically, if you want to transfer, that cannot happen. Yet, for the students, in particular, we have to make some provision for them, so it will demand an amendment,” he noted.

Ladies! This is what happens when you date a ‘hard guy’ https://www.adomonline.com/ladies-this-is-what-happens-when-you-date-a-hard-guy/ Thu, 18 Jun 2020 09:43:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1813386 If you ever end up dating someone who considers it weak for a man to express emotions, brace yourself for the following things.

If you want a relationship that not sexually one sided, you should know how to initiate sex with your partner [Credit: Shutterstock]

Getting involved with someone, especially with the intent of going all the way, should be a no-holds-barred affair.

So ideally there should be no such thing as suppressed feelings and unexpressed emotions.

However, for some men, especially the inexpressive ones [aka hard Guys], this is a real issue they can’t shake off.

Whether as a control mechanism, a defense strategy or just out of plain cluelessness, many men have been tagged as creatures who hold back emotions and refuse to truly assess and express the romantic feelings they have at several times, including times when they have partners.

If you ever find yourself dating such a ‘hard guy’, here are the pits you should be ready to encounter in such relationship:Getting involved with someone should actually be an emotional, no-holds-barred affair [Credit: Portra/Getty] Getting involved with someone should actually be an emotional, no-holds-barred affair [Credit: Portra/Getty]Portra/Getty

1. Confusion

One of the problems you will experience dating a man who is inexpressive and finds it difficult to express himself is confusion, misunderstandings and constant misconstruing of his intentions.

In a situation, you might think something while your partner has something else in mind other than what they are really feeling about the situation. This always leads to misunderstandings and too many avoidable fights that can ruin a healthy relationship.

2. Feeling unappreciated

Women have a reputation for being easily swayed by words, especially if they already like you. Words, especially complimentary ones, are also useful in keeping a woman feeling treasured, appreciated and desired

Now imagine having a guy who never gasses you up in any way, rarely assuages your doubts or reassures you of his undying affection for you – kinda tragic, yeah?An unhappy woman is what you get when you don't gas her up or make her feel appreciated in any way. [Credit: Blackcity girl]An unhappy woman is what you get when you don’t gas her up or make her feel appreciated in any way. [Credit: Blackcity girl]

3. Someone else

When you get pissed with your inexpressive guy over his constant failure to express feelings or dish out validation, you may start finding solace in something else. It could even be another human being.

If someone else starts filling the gap, you will gradually get far away from your partner. And when this happens, the end of that relationship becomes visible on the horizon. Here’s what to do if your man always disappoints you [Credit Alamy] Here’s what to do if your man always disappoints you: [Credit Alamy]

4. Communication suffers

Many women love to talk and express the things they’re feeling. If your partner is not expressive, you will lack communication in cases where you actually should open up.

Communication suffers when one partner pushes and the other pulls. In other words, when a partner tries to initiate and the other doesn’t reciprocate or does it poorly all times, it’s surely a problem.

5. Boring relationship

If someone likes forming inexpressive hard guy even with you his girlfriend, it is very likely that your relationship with him will be boring.

We already mentioned here how fun it is when both partners have an insane sense of humour and can both give and take jokes.

We don’t think that will apply much in your relationship if your boyfriend is inexpressive.

I will repay GH¢51m debt within two months if… – Woyome https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-repay-gh%c2%a251m-debt-within-two-months-if-woyome/ Wed, 17 Jun 2020 21:19:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1812911 Embattled businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, has stated the condition under which he will be able to repay the GH¢ 51 million judgement debt owed the State.

According to him, he will be able to repay the amount within two months if his investments in business shares are released.

“Let the government release the shares of my company and probably within two months that money will be paid but I feel the State is not interested in retrieving the money,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi TV, he disclosed that he has shares in about 14 companies which have all been frozen.

The Supreme Court, on July 29, 2014, ordered Mr Woyome to refund GH¢51.2 million to the State on grounds that he got the money out of unconstitutional and invalid contracts.

The said contract was between the State and Waterville Holdings Limited in 2006 for the construction of stadia for CAN 2008.

He had earlier prayed the Supreme court to grant the application for him to pay an outright GH¢10 million and subsequently pay GH¢4 million every 90 days which was dismissed.

Deputy Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, opposing the application, said it would be injustice against the people of Ghana if the application was granted.

Here are surprises couples often experience in the first year of marriage https://www.adomonline.com/here-are-surprises-couples-often-experience-in-the-first-year-of-marriage/ Wed, 17 Jun 2020 10:08:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1812744 For many couples, from the first month up to the first year can be the most difficult of their marriage.

Here are surprises couples often experience in the first year of marriage [Credit: TopsImages]

No matter how long you were engaged to someone, or how long you dated for, the experience of being married comes with few curve balls, especially in the early days.

This does not necessarily bode something sinister. It just points to marriage as a thing that naturally comes with so many changes that even the most diligent marriage preparation and counseling may not necessarily prepare you for.

So here are three things that could be a little surprising when you tie the knot:

1. The real extent of interdependence

One of the biggest changes that marriage brings is the melding of lives. This is not news to many of us.

As much as we have an idea of it though, when some people actually experience the extent to which theirs and their spouse’s lives became twined, they were indeed shocked, to be honest.

One moment you’ll be Miss Independent doing your own thing before you know it, you’re Mrs Dependent, asking if every of your move will not be inconvenient for your spouse.

Knowing about it might not be enough to handle this experience, really, but best be prepared for it nonetheless.Things could be a little surprising when you tie the knot [Credit - Shutterstock]Things could be a little surprising when you tie the knot [Credit – Shutterstock]Shutterstock

ALSO READ: Why do people really gain weight after marriage?

2. Managing expectations

People go into marriages with a host of expectations built consciously or unconsciously over the years.

What you might quickly learn in marriage is that, preparing for it is not the same as actually living it, experiencing it.

That’s why although many guys dated their girlfriends for long, and developed an idea of all what she needs from them to make the relationship work, they are still unprepared for the level of responsibilities that come with actual marriage.

Same thing goes for ladies, you already heard about what your husband’s family might demand of you, and you’ve heard several things about how some mothers-in-law could be terrible and all, and you prepared yourself to handle whatever is thrown at you.

I’m sorry to be the carrier of bad news, but what might be thrown at you might just be bigger than what you envisaged. The experience of being married may come with few curve balls, especially in the early days. [Credit - Shutterstock]The experience of being married may come with few curve balls, especially in the early days. [Credit – Shutterstock]Shutterstock

3. Lifestyle differences

Subconsciously, people often imagine a perfect marriage as one which works smoothly like synchronised swimming – you move he moves, you move he moves.

They often think that the spouses’ lives are so in sync that it’s hard to think of one without the other.

Now, this may be the case after a long time of being married, but newlyweds can’t expect to be walking in step from day one!

Forget that you guys dated for quite a while, marriage, as they keep telling me, is a different ball game entirely, and you might likely experience a part of your spouse you never saw all along while you were dating.

Anyway, love is about compromises and you can surely learn to co-habit with little adjustments here and there.

You’ll be fine, guys. Love always prevails!

The region for close to three weeks did not only have the number of confirmed cases continuously pegged at 22 but also recorded 21 recoveries.

But, it appears that the bubble has been busted and frontline workers have to get back to work with the announcement of 10 more new cases bringing the region’s tally to 32.

Dr Pungyiri, during a press conference, said they have, in earnest, started contacting persons who may have come into contact with the infected persons.

He expressed worry over the reluctance of most members of the public to wear face mask following the easing of restrictions.

On the issue of the alleged stealing of a mattress and flat-screen television at the Wa municipal isolation centre, he said investigations were ongoing to apprehend the culprits.

Dr Pungyiri concluded by giving an overview of the case of the count of Cerebrospinal meningitis that has killed 48 persons in the Upper West region.

As Theodosia Salome Okoh explained in an interview: “I decided on the three colours of red, gold and green because of the geography of Ghana. Ghana lies in the tropics and blessed with rich vegetation. Is Ghana no longer a rule of Law country? What the suspect said is wrong but that cannot warrant this disrespect to rule of law by the arresting officers.

I have 10 Questions for National Security and the security fraternity in Ghana, which is headed by the President as the Chair of the National Security Council.

1. Why was the suspect not given the Warrant to verify and authenticate if its signed by a court, which court, date, name of Judge etc. which issued it?

2. Why were his rights not spelt out clearly to him and asked to remain silent or whatever he says could be used against him?

3. Why was he not searched at the scene of arrest?

4. Why was a relation of his not informed where they were taking him?

5. Are the NS agents aware suspect is not guilty till a court says so?

6. Could the NS officers have planted the Nacortics on him?

7. Why video him posing with some herbs suspected to be Nacortics and publish it? Which law permits NS agents to humiliate suspects this way?

8. How did the NS agents know it was Nacortics?

9. Which Lab tested the substance the suspect is holding and confirmed it was Nacortics?

10. Shouldn’t the NS agents in the said video be rather detained for planting Nacortics on the suspect?

I am only asking questions, this could happen to anyone and this should not be happening under the leadership of human right lawyer President. I do not want to be a SPECTATOR; I want to be a CITIZEN as H.E. the President Nana Akufo-Addo once proclaimed.

Thank you.

Give your lips the goodness of homemade scrubs; find out how https://www.adomonline.com/give-your-lips-the-goodness-of-homemade-scrubs-find-out-how/ Tue, 09 Jun 2020 08:26:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1807877 If you are looking to understand the easy ingredients you can use to make lip scrubs at home, here is what you need to know.

The one good thing that has happened in lockdown is that people have turned to more natural ways of skincare than ever.

Cosmetic products are lying unused in the cabinets as people are reading more about home-based products and kitchen remedies for their skincare DIYs.

Among other things, lips, particularly, need extra care because the skin here is soft and sensitive. Also, regardless of the season, some people are more susceptible to chapped lips.

If you are one of them, looking to understand the easy ingredients you can use to make lip scrubs at home, here is what you need to know.

Coconut and honey lip scrub

Just like how they work for the face, coconut and honey are great for the lips, too. As such, they can be combined to make this easy lip scrub.

To make this scrub you will need one tablespoon each of organic honey and coconut oil, along with some brown sugar and a little bit of lukewarm water.

First mix the oil and honey thoroughly to make a paste, and then add the sugar and lukewarm water to the mixture to make the perfect scrub.

Rub it on the lips and massage well and gently for three minutes at least, before you wash it off with water.

This scrub can nourish the skin and act as an exfoliator, to remove the dead and the dry cells.

Coffee and honey scrub

The other thing you can do is make an easy lip scrub using one tablespoon each of ground coffee and honey.

Mix well until they become a paste. Next, apply the scrub on the lips and massage gently for two minutes.

Leave it on for two more minutes and wash away to see freshly-hydrated lips that look clean and without any cracks. Just like brown sugar, coffee can act as an exfoliator, too.

Rose petals and milk scrub

If you are looking for a more gentler option, this is your safe bet.

Rose petals are great for the skin, with most people using rose water on a regular basis, anyway.

Also, everybody knows the skincare wonders of milk. Together, they make for a great lip scrub.

Just take a little bit of each and mash them together to make a thick consistency. Rub it on the lips like a regular scrub, keep it on a minute or so, and then wash off with normal water.

Then apply a lip balm for better results. Do this every day if you are prone to chapping.

Which of the three lip scrubs will you be making today?

NPP suspends primaries in 3 constituencies https://www.adomonline.com/npp-suspends-primaries-in-3-constituencies/ Mon, 08 Jun 2020 16:50:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1807470 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the suspension of the upcoming primaries in the Dormaa Central, Kwadaso and the Krachi West constituencies.

According to the party, the suspension had become necessary to allow it to buy time in sorting out issues with the Dormaa Central and Kwadaso constituencies’ registers.

“There are issues with the album that we are still addressing and we have not finished resolving so on June 20, the stated constituencies will not be part of it,” he said.

The General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, speaking at a press conference on Monday, explained the Krachi West suspension was also because it had a single candidate.

ALSO READ:

“Krachi West constituency has only one candidate that has filed, and the person is also going through the process that sole candidates are supposed to follow, in consultation with the National Vetting Committee,” he clarified.

Mr Boadu further warned vote-buying in any form will not be tolerated, adding that all campaigns must cease by 1:am on June 19.

The primaries were originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, but were postponed due to the ban on public gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the NPP, following President Nana Akufo-Addo‘s decision to ease the restriction in a nation’s address on May 31, 2020, has set June 20 as the new date.

From ‘Strong Room’ to studio: Former EC boss Charlotte Osei turns TV host (Photo) https://www.adomonline.com/from-strong-room-to-studio-former-ec-boss-charlotte-osei-turns-tv-host-photo/ Sat, 06 Jun 2020 13:40:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1806774 A former chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, has taken up a new challenge as a business TV host on Accra-based GHOne TV.

Addressing her audience immediately after the launch of the programme dubbed ‘Business Compass’, Mrs Osei said the programme seeks to create a platform to groom budding entrepreneurs into growing their business.

“We have been engaging a lot of young entrepreneurs on their career and business issues and as we engaged them we realised more and more young entrepreneurs were passionate about their business and were very ambitious, but there was a knowledge gap,” she said.

According to her, a lot of the entrepreneurs think the problem was capital, but that isn’t the case. Most of them, she noted, just lack confidence and sometimes strategy to do things differently.

“So I have been engaging with them on one on one quietly but eventually somebody at GHOne TV has bullied me into bringing this on TV so I am here [under] duress but it is for a good purpose,“ she jokingly added.

“If you have a passion and wants to turn into a profit, you have a side hussle, you want to improve your business this is where you come to and like a GPS we will guide you,” she stated.

The former EC boss, who has a background as a corporate lawyer, will be joined by a group of friends with various expertise as well as a business coach to help young entrepreneurs on the programme which will be aired every week on GHOne TV.

Madam Osei was in June 2018 sacked as EC Chairperson alongside two of her deputies following recommendations from the committee that investigated corruption and misconduct allegations against them after some workers of the EC petitioned the President and Chief Justice to impeach her.
